Starting Meriofert on cycle day 8

I apologise in advance this is a bit long, but seeking some reassurance from anyone who may have experienced anything similar.

I was instructed by the fertility nurse to start my tablets on cycle day 21 and take them for 10 days and my scan was booked for 4 days after that (that was today). I started my period 7 days after starting the tablets so when it was scan day I was already on day 8 of next cycle.

On scan day the doctor assumed that I had started the meriofert injections (I hadn't as the nurse had told me I can not start injections until after this scan) but doctor informed me that meriofert should have been started on first day of my period.

She reassured me that she would speak to the consultant (a senior member of the team) and call me back after they'd decided if I should start meriofert today (day 8 of cycle) or wait till the first day of next period.

She called me back and instructed me to start meriofert today and I have done so.

I know I should not have but I googled this process and everything I keep seeing says that the injections should be started day 2-3 of your period.

Now I'm stressed and worried that they've messed me up and my ivf will fail because I was given incorrect instructions by the nurse to begin with.

Has anyone else started their injections later in the cycle? And how did that go? Any similar experiences please share 🙏

xx

I am doing a long protocol and also start meds on day 21 of my cycle. I don’t then start my stims on a particular day of my bleed, rather after my baseline scan, which for me this cycle is actually 12 days after starting meds. At my clinic they only do baseline scans once a week for long protocol, so you could have had a bleed a while before you start. I was told it doesn’t matter for long protocol, as the meds you take from day 21 effectively switch off all your hormones and your ovaries and then stims kick it all off when you start them. Last cycle I started my gonal f on day 7 of my bleed. Not sure what meds you’ve been on from day 21, but it could be something similar for you?

From day 21 I started progynova. This sounds like what's been my situation.

My clinic didn't even tell me about long and short protocol, unless I ask a specific question I don't get any information and most of the times I don't even know what I should be asking until something happens/is happening and even then you can't get through to anyone, only opportunity to speak to anyone is when I have a face to face clinic appointment.

I have started the meriofert as instructed by the doctor after her consulting the senior team members.

I'm just trying to stay sane and positive and look after myself, it's already such a difficult process to go through, wish clinics could be much clearer on communication and more person centered.

Hope your doing well on yours?

Yes and I think most of the information I keep seeing online is also based on short protocol, I'm trying my best not to Google anything else!

My periods are very regular, I'm 39 now, started this process over a year ago and it's taken this long to finally get to the starting point. Feeling a bit like this is my last chance and try.

Hey Kit, for my long protocol I started stims day 5 - I think you should be ok as it’s different to a short when you start on day 2-3. Good luck x

Hi its only short protocol that you start your stims on day 2-3 of your period. I did two long protocol cycles and for both of those I started meriofert 7 days after my period. So I think you will be fine, your consultant would have reviewed your plan and looked over your scan so I sure if they had any concerns that starting a few days later would have they would of cancelled your cycle.

Hi IVF41,

Thank you so much for checking in and I'm so sorry for late reply, I hadn't logged in on here in a while.

I didn't get to retrieval stage and that cycle was cancelled. After all the mix up with when I should've started Meriofert, after taking it I found out I was also put on wrong dosage.

And after speaking to the team we decided 2 errors was one too many and waited for my next period to start, so we could do it correctly as it should've been.

I was going through severe anxiety and a bit all over the place and retreated back into my shell hence also missed your message here.

I started my period last week and am taking Meriofert and have also started Fyremadel, I have a scan on Wednesday to see how things are going.

I hope you have been keeping well? And again I appreciate you checking back in, thank you.

xx
