Failed ICSI - 2 eggs collected none survived

Hi,

I guess I am just looking for some advice and good news stories. I had my egg retrieval yesterday. I was a slow responder to stimulation but managed to get about 4 follicles on either ovary to the right kind of size. They managed to get 2 eggs which I was really disappointed with. However received the devastating call this morning to say that both eggs were dying after icsi. That both eggs had a dark colour. I have stage 4 endo with kissing ovaries. I felt that ivf was worth a shot particularly as I had reduced my endo pain through diet and exercise. This was our first ivf. I had hoped we would a number survive and that we could freeze them in case something went wrong during future surgery.

I am on a nhs waiting list for endo surgery but I know the wait is very long, so now exploring private surgery options. I am also on the list for ivf on the nhs.

I guess I am wondering if anyone else has been in a similar position. I am 36. What did you do? I feel like I have failed my husband. I forced him to take a load of supplements to help with his low morphology and low mobility… which improved his sample yesterday. His sample was normal. It was my eggs that couldn’t survive. Does anyone have any good news stories to give me hope?

hi Behind_Hazel_Eyes - so sorry to hear. It’s devastating when you go through a round of ivf and don’t make transfer, I’ve been there myself. I also have endometriosis, am 36 and husband has a history of male factor (although last tests normal). Sadly I have had 3 failed rounds of ICSI now, so am opting for Endo surgery before I move onto my 4th round. I have had one round much better than the others though, so you can def make improvements without the surgery.

My inbox is open if you want to chat. Sorry I don’t have a success story but I understand the heartache you’re going through. Xxxx

Thank you for replying. I am so sorry to hear about your failed rounds. It is just devastating going through the hoping, stress and worry with little to show for it. I poured everything into this cycle (healthy eating, supplements, exercise and acupuncture). Sadly I really don’t think my eggs will improve without help. I have only ever had a cyst drained. No excision or ablation surgery yet. The endo has just got worse over the years. We are in the same unfortunate surgery boat. I really hope the surgery helps you and your 4th round works. Good luck x

Hi I'm really sorry to hear - it's such a tough and emotionally exhausting process. I had a similar first round - only got 4 eggs and no transfers. The clinic did learn a lot about my cycle and reaction to the meds from my first round, so it did really help with the round after and they changed my protocol, meds for the next round, and I had two blasts to transfer from the second round. Once you are ready to do a follow up I'd definitely get advice on any changes they can make to your meds/protocol to improve outcomes. I've got stage 4 endo too - it's not an easy IVF journey so I completely get it. Surgery helped with my egg quality (and with endo symptoms generally) so I did find it beneficial. Sending support your way xx

Thank you for replying. Endo definitely makes the ivf journey very hard. Its encouraging to hear that surgery helped you, particulary with egg quality. Good luck on your next round x
