Hi ladies,

I am going in for egg collection in a few minutes.Doc has just seen me and we are to use my DHs frozen vials from TESE due to azoospermia.I am so scared that it may not be successful as the doctor was kinda insisting on donor as back up but we do not want.Ladies, please please pray for me that it goes well.

Hi ladies,an update, they got 13 eggs,3 immature,2 abnorma and 8 good ones.Sadly! They did not get any normal sperm and we cant proceed.I am so broken,I am so lost! Why me?God why?Doc says we settle for donor I am not sure I want to,I just want to die.

Oh you poor thing! I am so sorry, there are no words! It is so unfair. Are they able to freeze your eggs? Once they are frozen, and you have had chance for you both to let it all sink in they you can think about your options. I know the doctor is saying donor...but do you have any more frozen vials left? Are they able to thaw out any more to see if theres any suitable sperm in there? Thinking of you xx

My eggs have been frozen,we dont have any more vials, doc doesnt think another TESE will provide any more viable vials.I dont know....

I’m so sorry to read this Cheles. I know you were worried about the sperm aspect and it’s devastating you have been through all the drugs and hyped up to get to this point and now you have been told you are not able to proceed.

Obviously you and your hubby need a few days to process what has happened. IVF is so overwhelming and I can only imagine the fragility you must be feeling right now. I am due to have my first ivf ICSI with a Micro-Tese in a few months and the build up over the last 3 years dealing with azoospermia has been horrendous. I am so sorry you are going through this today.

I just want to share some of my initial thoughts with you. I assume your clinician has told you that none of the 9 vials frozen had any useable sperm in them? Did he clarify what he meant by not normal? Is it because they have not defrosted properly? Or because they were not mature?

The cycle of sperm is renewed every 90-72 days. And each cycle could create different quality sperm depending on a variety of factors. If you decided to try again with your husband’s sperm you could try changing a variety of health, lifestyle and an aggressive supplement plan to try improve the quality of the sperm.

I do not know the reason your clinician said another tese might bring the same results obviously, but Another point I want to suggest is that you can always try again doing a fresh SSR with egg collection. I know that means more cost and another emotional rollercoaster but from the research I have done frozen sperm retrieved through SSR can often not defrost as well as sperm taken from ejactulation. Clinics rarely recommend this to patients because they do not have facilities to do this, they need to be part of a hospital, if they suggested it you would have to go to another clinic and obviously they do not want that. I live in the north of England and no clinic here private or nhs was able to facilitate fresh sperm so we have had to go to a London clinic.

My husband and I had to see 4 urologists across the country to finally get the proper advice we needed, the first 3 had completely written us off and told we should use a donor. I appreciate not everyone is able to seek lots of opinions or spend hours researching but if you want to try again with your husbands sperm I would highly recommend seeing Dr J Ramsay. He is the best in the field and was the first clinician to actually listen to us and not write us off. He also prescribed drugs in an attempt to improve my husbands sperm and gave us the options of a fresh sperm retrieval. There are still no guarantees at all and we have still been given very low chance of success but at least he was prepared to try. He is most probably the best in the country and you will see many women and men vouch for him on here.

There is still the option of donor sperm and many women have had success on here as a result. Of course you and your husband will need lots of time to think about it and for now you just need to grieve and look after yourself.

I know you must feel devastated today. But I really think you still have lots of options and your journey isn’t over yet by any means.

Sending you all my love and prayers xx

Hi Ladypii , coming back after over 1 year to check up on you and how yours went.I have been thinking about how encouraging you were and we managed to go through the process positively.I had resigned to my fate of maybe never being able to have children with my husband. He was broken for a very long time and indulged in alot of alcohol. We were told the reason for his azoospermia may be diabetes since he has been diabetic for a few years. In Aug this year, he decided to go off alcohol for a few weeks before his annual medicals that were performed 3 weeks after he stopped alcohol. They included sperm analysis.....We were shocked that they found 1.5million/ml.From zero to 1.5m??This was his medical doc so none was frozen at that point and we booked an appointment with our fertility doc a month later he was elated with the numbers. Then we got 3million/ml.The mortility is at 15% but there is hope.I go for another round in November with my frozen eggs and we are being very hopeful that all will go well.Indeed, no one should give up hope!

I really agree with Ladypii . There are hopefully more options for you to consider. We have had 2 failed rounds using frozen sperm, our clinic never gave us any other option. Now we are at a new clinic we are having fresh ssr on egg collection day, and hubby has been on about 10 tablets a day, so we are hoping we will see an improvement. Big hugs xx
