day 12 FET scan - 12cm dominant follicle

Hi all, hope you’re keeping well. I’ve just had my day 12 scan - I’m on meds prepping for a frozen transfer next week. The oestrogen I’m on is meant to quieten my ovaries. On the scan today, one ovary was quiet, but there was one follicle on the other ovary measuring 12mm. The nurse wants to check with the doctor whether this is ok. I’m worried it’s too dominant / I may still ovulate and this cycle may get cancelled as a result. Anyone else had any similar situations they’ve been in? Is 12cm too big?

Thanks

Hi. The. Leading follicle should usually be around 17mm to ovulate. Sometimes change it to IUI and not do the transfer. Lotd to think about. Good luck. Diane

Thanks Diane, the clinic have said we can go ahead with our FET, so they mustn’t be too worried about it. 🤞🤞🤞

I had a similar situation with 5 FET being cancelled in a raw. The dominant follicle means you will ovulate but it’s not a blocker for FET and actually may be even better according to some studies, but the challenge is to time the ovulation. You need to be checked daily to monitor the folicle and possibly trigger the ovulation. I was badly followed up and always late to know when the ovulation happened and therefore the cycles were cancelled.

Then they proposed me a dowregulation protocol to shut down my ovaries and put me into “temporary” menopause last December but it also went wrong and I am still waiting for my period to come…

If you have an opportunity to be monitored I would not cancel the cycle.

Good luck!

Thanks so much Katsi really appreciate your response! My satellite NHS clinic have said I’m good to go ahead with transfer, so just waiting to hear from the separate clinic that does the transfer (they outsource the transfer to a private clinic). I haven’t been offered any monitoring scans, which makes me a tad nervous that I could ovulate in the next few days (since my CM levels have been high this morning and yesterday afternoon) and then like you say, we wouldn’t be sure what day would then be best to time to transfer. Do you mind me asking how big your dominant follicles were when your cycles got cancelled? (If you remember?). It sounds like my 12cm one is on the cusp size wise a little at day 12 of my cycle, and so I’m wondering if the clinic are more confident than I am that it won’t grow enough to release an egg. I’ve emailed them for a bit more info (as annoyingly missed their call yesterday and now can’t get hold of them on the phone). Thanks again for you message!

sorry to answer so late. 12 is small! I hope your transfer went well!
