Progesterone at 100?

hi everyone

My progesterone levels were 49 on the day of FET, but my clinic phoned today and said they want this closer to 100!! Is that normal? I feel like that’s way too high :(

Would love to hear experiences.

hi hope you’re well, our clinic only asks for 40, but I’ve seen in here many other ladies saying more is better. Last time I only had 43 on the test and it’s been playing in my head wether I needed more, although it was borderline they only give the injections if below 40. I have just had my test this morning and FET tomorrow, so I’ll definitely be asking again and report back. Curious to see what others say. When is your FET? Sending loads of hope and positive vibes your way xx 🌈♥️🤞🏼

Hi Hopewhite

Thanks for your reply. I’m the same as you - I’ve only ever seen people say their progesterone should be close to 50, but never 100. Just feels too high, but what do I know?! I had my FET yesterday (Sunday) and they phoned me today to say I need to take 5 cyclogests a day. I mean, I know they’re the experts but it just feels high.

All the best of luck I hope you get the positive outcome you deserve ! I know the pessaries aren’t anyone’s favourite thing haha but maybe I’d just go with it just in case ! But it does sound like a lot! could you ask them for the Lubion injections instead? Are you meant to do that until OTD or would they test your levels again? I have seen some ladies in here saying they get level of 100 just with 2 Cyclogest a day , and I truly don’t know how that happens ! I’ll raise this question tomorrow and let you know xx

Thanks so much Hopewhite . I’ve asked for a meeting with my consultant, but I think you’ll probably get answers before me :) Best of luck and oodles of babydust being sent your way for your FET tomorrow ♥️

Hi Sea and sun, I hope you’re well. They definitely wanted 40, I was borderline 38.5 and they have added 1x Lubion injections a day (+2 Cyclogest) for this 2ww. I hope you get an appointment soon with your consultant to discuss, perhaps is just a precaution but better to do as told, and definitely ask for the Lubion as it sounds a bit easier to do. Hopefully this will be your lucky one ♥️🌈 sending you loads of good luck your way xx

Thanks for getting back to me Hopewhite ☺️ I just spoke to my consultant and they said they ideally want it at 75 for a natural cycle. Just gonna do as I’m told, cause what do I know?! They also said Lubion is a lot stronger and as I don’t need too much more, they just gave me the miserable job of 5 cyclogests. Meh. Oh well. Good luck to us!! Sending you lots of babydust over the airwaves.

Hi sea&sun glad they have clarified ! It’s amazing how they all advise slightly different things , very sorry about the pessaries but it’s better to be on the safe side and trust your doctors. Although I cannot quite believe science hasn’t found a better alternative 😂

All the best of luck to us 🤞🏼 let’s hope the 2Ww flies by xx

Sea_and_Sun just had to comment - 5 cyclogests?!?! Oh my! I hope it's because you have known implantation issues. My clinics both said that only the shots really show up as an increase of progesterone on blood tests. They know inserts provide the progesterone you need locally. From bloods they look for a certain natural rise to show your bodyis kicking in some progesterone, but thats it.

Hope it works out and isn't overkill 😜

GOOD LUCK!

Progesterone levels can fluctuate during the cycle in women and vary depending on the phase of the menstrual cycle. However, your described values, 49 and 100, seem quite high. It is important to clarify in which phase of the cycle the first and second analyses were done, because progesterone levels naturally rise in the second half of the cycle, especially during and after ovulation. If your progesterone levels rise in the second half of your cycle, this may be normal. However, it is important to discuss these results with your doctor so that he or she can analyse your medical history, take into account your cycle patterns and provide you with a more accurate explanation. High progesterone levels can also be associated with other conditions or diseases, so it is important to have further tests and a consultation with your doctor to get specific information about your case.

hello! My progesterone level on day of FET was 125 and the clinic were happy with that and told me to continue on the meds. I’m taking two lubion injections per day and two cyclogest. If it was too high they would’ve told me to cut back some of that I think.

Hi Foxglove_daffodil - thanks for sharing your info with me :) It's nice to know that very high progesterone levels are not unusual. Sending lots of babydust your way!

Thank you. Can I just ask why you are describing 125 as very high though? Have you read somewhere that is unusually high? I don't see a range anywhere online despite searching! Wishing you lots of luck too

Hi Foxglove_daffodil - "very high" compared to my normal readings and what other posts in the forum have said regarding their clinic's thresholds :) Most clinics are happy with levels at 30 or 50 from what I have read, so I put 100 into the "very high" bracket, but I am not a medical professional, so don't know what "really high" really constitutes...

Oh ok. Yes, from your post I guessed if your clinic was saying they wanted it closer to 100 then that mine at 125 wouldn't be very high. But I'm not a medical professional either so who knows. I'm going to ask my clinic for the range 😊

Hi Sea_and_Sun. My clinic took a similar approach to yours - they wanted my progesterone levels to be 100+ after FET. On day of transfer, mine was in the 80s and my clinic prescribed me uteogestan in addition to lubion and cyclogest. I'm now 14 weeks pregnant so seemed to work for me! Saying that, this was 9th transfer and first time I even got implantation (7 of these were at a different clinic).

Hi EllaBC - gosh I need to take some strength from you. 9 transfers!! You are clearly an IVF superwoman. Massive congrats on the bun in the oven though :) Thanks for sharing your info with me - it has helped me in more ways than you know!

100 sounds high if they wanted it for transfer day - normally they say above 30. My clinic said ideally around 50. But they also said it fluctuates so much naturally and women who get pregnant naturally have much lower starting levels and are fine, it's just with IVF they want to do everything possible. Mine was 47 on my successful FET but then they kept upping the dose as they said given the amount of I was on it should have been higher. My levels have always been higher once I got a BFP (over 190, which I think is the limit of detection) and I have a feeling it's the BFP that actually causes the increase as I've only ever got the higher numbers on those and it's been a few days or a week or so after, whereas my BFN stubbornly stayed lower no matter how much I was on. 5 cyclogest does sound a lot though, just from a practical perspective -maybe ask about lubion?

Thanks for your lovely reply MrsOrangejuice :) It's very comforting to hear that other people are in the same position. I felt like a very lonely soldier when they said they wanted it at 100!

my progesterone on day of transfer was 159, it worked and was the first one I had to work. It’s hard to have too much progesterone from my understanding.

Also I had 3 Cyclogest a day and one Lubion injection which may be preferable rather than 5 pessaries!

Thanks so much Wishinandahopin . It’s comforting to know that yours was over 100. It puts my mind at ease. I’ll ask about the Lubion :)

100 is fine for progesterone! In fact your body will absorb what it needs and get rid of the rest. x
