So after speaking to my doctor today she seemed to think that 3 cyclogest pessaries or 2 lubion a day was the maximum progesterone dose I could have. For those who have been put on a high dose could you please let me know what you’re on please and does anyone know if it’s possible to get a private prescription when with the nhs? Feel like I’m trying to juggle opinions of 2 different doctors and it’s driving me crazy!

I was on 2 pessaries and 1 lubion a day. Which to me was a high dose as they upped it with the lubion injection. I'm not sure about the prescription side of it when with the NHS though sorry lovely. Good luck xx
I’m sorry to hear that. Would they not be able to get you a prescription and then you get it from somewhere else? Our clinic’s private, they gave me a prescription and I got it from the in-house pharmacy. Other pharmacies don’t hold it in stock but I think some are able to order it in as I called round to see if I could pick it up somewhere more local to the clinic x
Well I've never heard that before! So I was on 2 cyclogest per day and 1 lubion every other day up to transfer then after chatting with the consultant and explaining that I was sure my progesterone was the only thing left to do after he told me to stay on 2 cyclogest per day and up my lubion to every day....then called me later and said he'd changed his mind and wanted to throw everything at this transfer so landed up on 2 cyclogest per day and 2 lubion per day. I'm really sorry I cant help with the private prescription for NHS but would your NHS clinic even consider giving you extra meds if you'd pay for it?! Or the other thing would be to ask for prontogest injections (progesterone oil injections) as these are the best absorbed ones. In hindsight I would have gone on those had I known I was gonna be on so much lubion as it can work out very expensive paying for it.xxx
I asked for the prontagest as they were recommended to me but she said they don’t stock it. I’d definitely be happy to pay for more meds I wish I’d said that on the phone call. It’s so hard I feel like I need to trust them but I see people on here getting so much more progesterone and now I’m worried I’ve failed before I’ve even started!xx
I wonder if the NHS are saying that's maximum due to the cost. Lubion is around £48 per box for 7 vials in Asda (which is non profit) so if you're on for example 2 per day its not cheap! I feel your pain, it's like banging your head off a brick wall. My bloods showed in the past that my levels were low so had lubion thrown in but once we'd done the ERA I think the Dr was at the end of his tether with me and of course I was private so he didnt care what I was paying. You could maybe even ask the clinic if they would do you a private prescription for just the injections that you could take elsewhere.... for a form of progesterone oil injections....gestone?! It works out cheaper than the lubion twice per day.xxx
That makes sense although nhs are happy to prescribe me 2 lubion a day, I have some cyclogest so wondering whether to add any in or ask them to do a prescription for prontagest and get it elsewhere I just don’t want to overdose myself so want the doctors backing xx
I dont think you'd overdose! A couple of my cycle buddies were on cyclogest or utrogestan alongside protogest injections daily. I would definitely give it a shot....they asked to up their doses after we'd been chatting and my upped doses and again they were private but they are currently both pregnant too....could be pure coincidence!!🤷🏼♀️xxx
I’m on utrogeston 4 per day (equates to 2 cyclogest per day) plus 1 prontogest injection. I’m private but if they would give you the prescription you could go somewhere else. My clinic uses Stork fertility- think they are a part of a company called health net. They deliver by post.
Hi Core, I started off on 2 cyclogest and 1 lubion a day but my clinic monitor progesterone levels and I ended up taking 3 cyclogest and 2 lubion a day! I continued this until I was 12 weeks pregnant then I was weaned off everything really slowly.
Can you ask them to check your progesterone levels and adjust your doses according to the result?
That’s great they monitor you and congratulations on your pregnancy. Sadly my clinic won’t test progesterone as they say there’s no agreed measure for what constitutes the right amount of progesterone!xx
Hi, I was on 3 lentogest weekly, utrogestan tablets 3 x daily, crinone 2 times a day and cyclogest twice daily. So I don't think you need to worry about overdosing. Good luck!
I’m on 2 x 400 cyclogest a day and 1 prontogest injections every other day. The only way you would get a private prescription is if you go and see a private consultant about your case. They may or may not help you if your still with the NHS
I had 4 Cyclogest pessaries a day and a Prontogest injection every other day so I’m not sure what you’ve been told is correct. I don’t know about private prescriptions with the NHS I’m afraid but you may be able to get a private one with a private consultant x
If you ask them to write you a private prescription then you can go to places like Asda as suggested as they are usually cheapest for IVF related meds . There are online pharmacies like Fertility 2U but they charge for postage which isn't cheap if you're just getting one type of med so Asda would be better.
How does one check progesterone levels if not on NHS?
Hey, if you Google private GP surgery near your area and then call them to ask if they can issue you with a private prescription for the meds you want. They would charge a fee for the prescription service and you would just pay the pharmacy the fee for the meds. Hope that helps. Good luck. X
