Ultralow biomass biome - EMMA result pre-FET

Hi friends,

Thanks to everyone who posts in this forum. I've found it so helpful.

I've just received my EMMA test result, which has come back as "ULTRALOW BIOMASS BIOME". I previously had 63% lactobacillus and 29% gardnerella. I did the antibiotic followed by two rounds of probiotics.

My doctor says it's not a concern though as advised by the lab to now take a probiotic vaginally nightly until I ovulate.

I am of course freaking out because I've read about all the stories of how the microbiota make such a difference, particularly that magical 80-90% lactobacillus.

Has anyone here had this ultralow biomass result and gone on to have a pregnancy?

Best wishes,

Sarah x

I had this after I took antibiotics following my initial result, and despite probiotics. I think sometimes it just takes the good bacteria time to regrow. I actually did get pregnant following that (my first ever implantation) but then miscarried (most like chromosomal as it was measuring behind the whole time and had a slow heartbeat). However my next 2 pregnancies gave me my 2 children so it worked out. For my last one, we did antibiotics again (no EndomeTRIO test) followed by probiotics and an FET on the next cycle which gave me my son. I also took probiotic tablets that are supposedly designed to reach the reproductive tract. Good luck x

Hi Peony,

Thank you for sharing about your experience. I found it really helpful to hear that you did get pregnant with this kind of microbiome profile. I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I am also taking the tablets. I read up on it a bit more and the current thinking is that the lactobacillus makes a difference by keeping the pathogenic bacteria at bay, although it is all a speculative science at the moment which makes hearing your experience all the more valuable.

Hi! No direct experience with EMMA because our NHS funding didn't allow for it but I had to take antibiotic prior to and during my last FET due to BV. My clinic advised to take probiotics, I took both oral and vaginal ones. This was the transfer that gave us our daughter. So don't worry, you should still have time to turn things around. Very best of luck!

Thanks Eloquentia. Really helpful to hear about your experience, and that you now have a daughter. I am staying positive for my transfer this weekend.
