5 weeks pregnant with FET now showing negative test result!

Hi all,

I’m just wondering if anyone has an advice on my situation which is very sad.

I am 5 weeks pregnant with a frozen cycle. I did a pregnancy test yesterday and it’s showing not pregnant. My consultant at Guys has advised to stop all medication.

I am very blessed that I do have a beautiful son through a FET a few years ago.

This is now the third time that this has happened. The embryo implants, I get a positive test result and then it seems to stop growing.

We have 2 frozen embryos left and I am very scared it will happen again. Has anyone been through similar? Absolutely dreading the miscarriage as last time it was extremely painful. If anyone has an advice i would be very grateful.

I’m so very sorry for your losses, it’s awful enough to have go through once let alone three times. Although you are grateful for your precious son it doesn’t make the pain any less in fact you want it not just for you but your son too. Seeing as you have suffered 3 losses I would ask to be referred to the miscarriage clinic for further testing. Im unsure how the referrals are with COVID19 but definitely push for further tests. Have you tried low dose steroids or aspirin to take after transfer? Some ladies those have made a difference to the outcome! Have you thought having the embryos tested for any abnormalities? Good luck with it xxx

Hi Jess1981

Thank you for responding and your kind words.

We asked the consultant yesterday and he said that the embryo won’t survive being defrosted for testing and then being put back in. Maybe it isn’t something Guys Hospital do. I will ask again though. Also I will mention about the aspirin too. Thank you for that tip! Xx

Sorry to hear this. Chemical pregnancies are so heartbreaking. I fully agree with everything Jess has said. After 3 in a row they should refer you for further testing. Don’t let them fob you off with the fact you have had a successful pregnancy. Whilst it does show you can carry a baby to term, there could have been a combination of circumstances which allowed that. Did you have any challenges with your son?

We have spoken to the consultant at Guys and he says he thinks it’s the embryos that are the issue and not me. As we only have 2 left in the freezer I’m very worried about using them up.

Do you think I should ask for tests through my GP or through Guys Hospital? They have done some blood tests and all normal. Also a Hycosy, which did show a very small polyp.

Everything went really well with my son. He was my 3rd go and a frozen cycle. As soon as I was pregnant we pretty much sailed through it all. I think he is a miracle.

I just don’t understand why after him to FET cycles later the embryo stops growing. It’s so frustrating as you can imagine.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. Any advice will be appreciated.

So sorry to hear that. Did they monitor your progesterone levels? I met a nurse who had 12 miscarriages before they realised she needed extra progesterone 😳😳😳 and then had progesterone injections right through her pregnancy and had a healthy baby. Worth asking? Xx

When you say she needed extra progesterone. How much was her level before. I suffered two miscarriages, I asked my doctor for extra progesterone he brushed off saying I’m already in high progesterone supplements which is 3 times 200 mg vaginal pessarie and 1ml pio shot once in three days, before starting my last transfer I tested my blood it measured 70. Looking for any advice

So sorry for such a delayed response. I have no idea what her levels were, but there’s a Progesterone Level Chart in Pregnancy on a website called new health advisor as a guide. How you doing now?

I'm in similar position to you. I had a successful fresh and now have a 3 year old.

This year I have used up the 2 frosties that I had- both times pregnant result and both times bleeds before 6 weeks. The clinic reckon its 'bad luck' rather than anything wrong with me.

As the weeks have passed since my recent loss at the start of this month, I have convinced myself that I probably don't absorb the progesterone properly and its not something my clinic suggested keeping an eye on. (An Instagram live Zita West did during the week sealed my thoughts when the expert said that progesterone is the key in frozen transfers).

I am so wary of trying again- I will and I'm trying to tell myself that fresh will suit my body better because there isn't that reliance on synthetic progesterone.

Such a stressful journey 😫 I would definitely suggest speaking to your clinic about the progesterone issue x

Hi MD123

So sorry that you have to go through this as well. It really does take its toll on you mentally and physically.

I keep telling myself how lucky I am to have my son. He too was as FET. So it’s annoying as I know it can work.

I hear you about the progesterone. I did wonder about that.

The hospital said the same to me not many answers, just it’s the embryo etc.

Currently in my 2ww with the 3rd FET this year. This time I’m on x3 progesterone pessaries a day, Lubion injection, x4 oestradil valerate, fragmin injection and baby aspirin! Yikes it’s a lot. Maybe pass this info on for your next round.

So are you doing a fresh IVF soon?

Do you think age comes into it? I’m 36.

Xxx

I hope to do fresh early next year - have a couple of periods then go again. I'm 37 so also wondered about age. I worry about egg quality doing another fresh at almost 38 vs almost 34 the last time but already popping the co-q10 tablets as people on other forums can say that they got better results in 2nd fresh cycles after introducing them and they were my age too. 🤞

Hope this cycle gives you success ❤ xxx
