chemical pregnancy?

hi all. I’ve previously had an MMC from a natural pregnancy followed by 2 x failed IUI cycles. I then had my daughter through a 3rd IUI in 2022. Since then I’ve had a natural MC. I’m now under care of a new clinic and agreed to try naturally with progesterone and aspirin support for 2/3 my cycles before moving on to IVF. I’m 39. I’ve just had a BFP yesterday morning, making me 4 weeks pregnant, but today I’ve started bleeding. It’s light and pink the moment but I just have this feeling like my periods going to come. I can’t get HCG tested as I have to travel for Xmas tomorrow so I guess I’m just looking for any positive endings with bleeding on cyclogest. I started cyclogest 3 days after positive OPK so I’ve been on it 2 weeks already but this is first time I’ve bled. Naively I thought I wouldn’t bleed if taking it so I was more worried about an MMC at first scan, so this has thrown me. Thanks for reading xxx

Understand how worried you must be. I had bleeding and spotting on cyclogest which sadly was an early loss, so it definitely is possible to still spot/bleed whilst on it. But I also had bleeding and spotting on my successful cycle and it turns out to have been no issue with the pregnancy (rather a harmelss growth on my cervix) so it doesn't mean it's over. I am currently pregnant naturally (somehow, never happened before in 10 years TTC) and I didn't even know as I started spotting around the time my period would have come and just assumed I was having a light period, plus I had what felt like mega PMT, and cramps etc. So again, although it's very worrying, it doesn't seem to necessarily be a bad sign and I think it's very common, especially early on. You could maybe look at getting an online or walk-in hcg blood test, but may be tricky at this time of year. I don't know if it would be too early for EPU, but of it gets worse, very heavy or you don't feel well, it's best to get it checked out.

Thank you so much for your reply. It’s so helpful to hear from people who get it. Biggest congratulations on your pregnancy, amazing you got pregnant naturally. Xx

Bleeding is always very worrying in this game but sometimes harmless. Are you using the cyclogest vaginally? Maybe it’s irritating your cervix. Try swapping around (using it in the rectum) I had a massive bleed at 6 weeks and the scan revealed a hemotoma. It was like a proper period (I get very heavy ones) so I freaked out. It didn’t for two days and then just stopped. Still worth checking out. Best of luck xx

Thank you so much for your reply. I’ve been alternating how I insert the pessary to avoid mess during the day so in the evening I insert it vaginally. It did occur to me it could be irritation but I’ve only had it the last couple of days out of the 2 weeks I’ve been using it. What an absolute minefield. Your massive bleed must have been truly awful, I’m so glad it wasn’t bad news. Xx

I can relate! I'm 5+5 today and have been spotting (light brown) on and off since 5 weeks mark. I have been on cyclogest (always vaginally) since the start of this cycle and also all of previous FET cycles and never bled.

When I spoke to a midwife from my clinic she didn't seem to be concerned as it's not fresh blood & I have only mind cramps. She suggested switching to taking cyclogest rectally - the reason being that even if one hasn't bled previously with cyclogest, due to increasing hormones one's cervix will be more sensitive/sore.

Tbh my spotting hasn't entirely stopped, but trying to stay positive until my first scan next week, as everything else (midwife's advise, beta numbers etc) are looking fine atm.

Hope it will calm down for you. It's nerve-racking xxx
