Hi

I have three day 3 embryos in storage. After transfer of 2 day 5 embryos in April, that resulted in miscarriage at 12 weeks, I am having a myomectomy next week.

I discussed open vs lap, the surgeon and I decided on open because the fibroid is close to the endometrial lining and fairly large 8-9cm. Also he felt that doing it open would reduce risk of disrupting the lining and lead to improved suturing of the back wall of the womb, which is where the fibroids are located.

My consultant feels that the chances of early pregnancy loss are higher if I don’t have a myomectomy, as the two fibroids grew during my pregnancy leading to subchoronic bleeding and eventual miscarriage, most likely in response to the meds. My consultant is happy to undertake embryo transfer three months after my open myomectomy provided there are no complications.

I had a consultation with a consultant at a Spanish clinic, he informed me that there is no clinic in Spain that would undertake embryo transfer 3 months after myomectomy, that I would have to wait a minimum of 12 months even if I wanted to undertake an ivf cycle.

I’m a bit astounded by this. Time isn’t really on my side, as I turn 44 this week.

Has anyone on here had an open myomectomy? How soon after could you have another ivf cycle and when did you have an embryo transfer.

Thanks

Hello! Not a myomectomy but I’m soon to have a laparoscopic c section niche repair after two failed PGTA transfers. Consultant (UK) said I would need to wait 3 months before another transfer/cycle. I know it’s not the same procedure but it’s still surgery to the uterus. Maybe Spain are super cautious?

Yes, maybe but I think he might of misunderstood. The clinic were reasonable and happy to provide a second opinion. A year is too long, especially when you get to my age. Thanks for replying.

I had an open myomectomy 3.5 years ago. It was before we had started IVF but my consultant had told me that we could start trying to conceive again as soon as I was comfortable. This was about 3 months later. I can't give an answer from an IVF perspective but a year seems a very long time.

Hi CornflowerMoon

Again thanks for replying. I think he misunderstood. He spoke over me a lot and I don’t feel he listened. Anyway, I’m getting other opinions similar to what you’ve said. 3-4 months for ET and 3 months for another cycle. Which sounds more reasonable

Hi there, I am based in Australia and I had an open myomectomy in October last year and was told I could resume IVF cycles in 3 months time and embryo transfer - in 6 months time. Prior to resuming IVF cycles I did a post-op ultrasound, as my IVF doctor, who was also the one who performed the surgery, wanted to ensure I was healing as I should and there were no complications.
