How low have your AMHs been when successfully collecting eggs?

I wrote a week or so about donor egg logistics etc, but we’ve decided to have a look at our own stats with a fertility MOT, just so that we fully know our options.

My AMH was 2.2 and 1 in July and August 2021, so I’m not hopeful 🙈, but those with low AMHs, could you let me know how low your AMHs were whilst undergoing IVF and how many eggs were collected, and those of you that had cancelled rounds because stimulation just was not working? I really want to go into this with my eyes open.

Thank you x

My first AMH reading was 1.8 and it then went to 6 after a few months. First round 12 eggs, 9 mature, 8 fertilised. Second round 8 eggs mature 4 fertilised. We had 10 blastocysts in total from the two collections and 7 were normal after pgt test. Age was 34 at the time. Was on short protocol, dhea supplements and growth hormone. Xx

Wow, that’s amazing! How fortunate to get so many good blastocysts x

We were told that with my very low AMH our odds were not good. I think we were lucky and had the right protocol and the right supplements. When we started the journey we thought the hardest part would be having blastocysts, but for us it was the implantation phase that proved tricky. We do now have a lovely 8 weeks old daughter and feel blessed. Sending you love, luck and strength x

I’m so glad you were successful in the end though 😌 - I hope you’re enjoying motherhood (the hardest job ever). I managed to conceive naturally just before we started IVF in Dec 21, so this is for the chance of a sibling, but I want to prepare myself, and ultimately if the odds are so low then I think we’d have to just consider donor eggs x

Hi - please do you mind me asking about the growth hormone? I did my first IVF cycle last month, but it was unsuccessful (13 fertilised eggs, all abnormal…sigh). I’m going to have one last try in August. I tried the growth hormone pre-stims (Genotropin MiniQuick 0.4mg) - but it gave me a thumping headache and made me feel rather queasy and faint. My consultant told me to stop taking it - but I’m keen to give it another go during my next cycle. Please do you mind me asking which growth hormone you used, how many mg, and how often you took it? Thanks x

I was on zomacton, 4 mg, injected at alternate days during stimulation. No particular side effects for me . Let me know if you have more questions and lots of luck x

Thanks so much for getting back to me. During my first cycle, my consultant wanted me to take the growth hormone for a month before my treatment: 0.4mg every day. It would then be 1.2mg every day during stimulation. Annoying that I had such bad side effects when I was on such a relatively small dose. When I saw my consultant last week, I suggested moving it to alternate days during my next cycle. Will see what he comes back with when I get my new treatment plan. Am loathe to chicken out on the growth hormone because of the side effects - my egg quality is atrocious, so I need all the help I can get! Thanks again x

I've had my AMH drawn twice but not for some time. My reading were 3.5 pmol/L the first time and 9.5pmol/L the second time. I've not had a particularly optimistic experience but thought if share to give the balanced perspective which you've asked for.

I've had several IVF rounds with the third transfer resulting in pregnancy but subsequent TFMR loss due to chromosomal problems.

On my first cycle I got no eggs. My clinic learnt from this and changed tactic and I then got 6 eggs of which 4 were blasts (my most hopeful cycle).

Since then I've had had a cancelled cycle due to low response and a cycle with 2 eggs collected, but neither divided properly so I had nothing to transfer.

I was 34 when I started IVF and I'm now 37 just to give some perspective.

Maybe my experience is within the minority, I'm not sure x

Thank you for sharing - I really do need to hear from both sides.

I pray you get some success if you are continuing with treatment ❤️ xx

I have low AMH, was 5.6 at 27 then went down to 4.6 a year later. First round we got 5 eggs, three mature, 1 blasto but no success. Second round we got 8 eggs, only 3 mature and non fertilised.

We went to start our third round and due to not many eggs being mature they felt like it was a low LH hormone issue so was feeling confident that this would work on third round as partners sperm side was fine. However we found ourselves naturally pregnant by some miracle.

I dont know if you’ve done any rounds yet but I would deffo discuss LH as this was a big issue with previous protocols, eggs are there albeit low but they needed maturing more. Both rounds were short rounds and we was going to continue that as i was responding well. Best of luck x

Thank you. How did you find out it was an LH issue?

No rounds yet as we also conceived naturally before starting our first round - but would love the chance of our little one getting a sibling x

Well I was doing ovulation tests first year of trying, and I always got what I thought was a positive but never super strong. Due to my eggs not maturing, the clinic then advised they think I need more LH to mature the eggs. One day I felt soooooo emotional and overwhelmed and I knew it was meant to be my ‘you should feel amazing during this week’ time of the month, so I took an ovulation test which I had actually stopped doing for the past couple years and it came back suppppper strong positive ovulation test, so that explained why my hormones were all over the place but thought nothing of it but this turned out to be the month we actually conceived. So I feel that this particular month I had enough LH to mature and egg and bam it worked, it was a combination of low putting two and two together and my clinic also suggested LH. Guess we’ll never really know! X

I bet that’s something a lot of clinics wouldn’t even think of - but so lucky regardless that you conceived naturally.

I’ve always done the Clearblue tests and get a peak surge every month, so hopefully I’m all good LH wise xx

My AMH was 2.3 a year before we started IVF and I was 31. We had tons of delays before starting, it was really frustrating. I was on 375 ovaleap and short protocol. First round I got four eggs but only two fertilized, the other two were just rubbish, nothing made it to blast. Second round I took dhea and coq and got 6 eggs, 5 fertilised, 4 made blastocyst. We have three in the freezer and one growing in my tummy. Grateful we have frosties as I dread to think what my AMH is going to be if we decide we want another. Good luck! Xx

I know, thank you! I couldn't believe the difference between the first and second cycle. We had a review meeting after round 1 and the consultant told us we should use donor eggs and I was so upset. So it was really a miracle. Hope your IVF journey has the same luck! xxx

Hi my I was 36 at times of testing, AMH was less than 0.7 and I had to cancel my cycle due to no follicles.

Sat here with my 13mo DEIVF twins sleeping on me now. Best decision I’ve ever made. Wouldn’t want any other babies 🥰 but I know how hard it was believing that that could be the case until they arrived! So no judgement that you want to try with your OE. xx

My First AMH was low but my Inhibin B was 120 and I trusted my doctor from USA and I have 2 sons with my own eggs. He showed me references that prove that Inhibin B shows the quality of eggs. The higher its value the better quality of eggs. So, I trusted him and I avoided IVF trials. Best wishes for all!!!

AMH was 0.16 and never got more than 1 follicle/egg from stims. I did get pregnant naturally though with this low AMH at age 41.

Wow, what a little miracle!

I had my bloods taken for AMH yesterday with an internal scan at the same time, and the clinician said that my ovaries (one currently showing 7-8 follicles) is really not reflective of my AMH result of 1 p/mol 2 years ago, but much better. So even if it does come back lower, I’m just quietly hopeful that we’d be able to get some eggs from me 🤞🏻

Sounds promising. My scans never showed more than 3 initial follicles. Good luck!
