Seeking Advice for PCOS

Hi everyone, my husband and I have been trying to conceive for several years, but unfortunately, we haven't had any success. During our time abroad, we sought the advice of a Gynecologist who diagnosed me with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which has been causing irregular menstrual cycles. The doctor recommended assisted conception treatments such as IUI and IVF as potential solutions.

Upon returning to the UK, I started consulting my GP in November 2022. After undergoing numerous tests over several months, I was finally referred to an NHS Fertility Clinic in May 2023. While I'm relieved to have secured an appointment, I'm disheartened to learn that it won't take place until July 2023. It seems there's an eight-month waiting period to see a Fertility Consultant.

Given my age, I'll be turning 37 this year, I'm concerned that the wait for assisted conception treatments may hinder my chances of receiving the necessary assistance before I reach 43.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience regarding the expected timeframe for receiving assisted conception treatments following the initial appointment with the Fertility Consultant. Should I start considering other options outside the NHS? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you can afford it, go private! No wait lists! At least for initial tests that aren't too expensive (if you haven't had these in the meantime)! Your first port of call is likely to be 6 rounds of chlomid before IUI so you just need a prescription. Once you're in though I've found them to be quite quick and responsive. Just gota wait for that appt and then all the initial tests!!?!?

Thank you for your response! Will definitely look into options that are not too expensive. Glad to hear that private healthcare providers tend to be quick and responsive. That gives me some reassurance about the process.

Just wondering if you know how long it takes to complete the initial test before seeing the NHS Fertility Consultant.

Cheers!
