amh level please advise

hi , hope you’re all doing well at whatever stage you’re in this journey.

We have been told we are finally closer to start the first ivf/ICSI cycle. We had the first call last week where they explained all the process, which was an awful download of information.

The nurse mentioned that given my amh results were on the high side ( 31.1 pmol/l at 38 years) I might have high chances of having ovarian hyper stimulation and may have to do a frozen embryo transfer a few months later. Does anyone has experience on this and any advise you could give ?

I’m confused as after the amh test, I received a letter from the fertility doctor saying this amh level was normal and reassuring…

The other confusing thing is my ovarian scan have notes saying they are bulky and could be polycystic, however I’ve never been diagnosed with pcos, started this journey more than a year ago, and no advice at all was given after the scan on this regard.

thank you very much

your AMH is similar to mine (was the same at 37 and 40 hasn’t changed) we do short protocol and keep and eye on hormone Levels and I’ve had 4 egg collections and never had my levels go above the threshold where it need a freeze all as risk of OHSS. It’s just something they monitor as there is a risk of it. If they do have to do a freeze all (which does happen to quite a few women) then they transfer the embryo a couple of months later once your body is recovered as that’s the best time to do it and reduces the risk. If the consultant isn’t worried then the nurse is probs just making you aware of the fact it’s a potential risk. I would phone to ask about the ovary scan results if they didnt discuss them with you at your consultation though for sure! Lots of luck to you xx

thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience, the fact that she mentioned this whilst the consultant didn’t left me confused , hopefully like you say she’s only doing her duty of highlighting potential risks. I hope you’re doing well, sending good luck and good vibes your way xx

Hi lovely I had similar results aged 29 and no history of PCOS. It just means you are likely to respond well to stims. There is a higher risk of OHSS so they will probably do a few different things to try and eliminate the risk. I had mild stimulation (lower doses), short(antagonist) protocol, and a GnRH trigger which virtually eliminates risk of OHSS. If during stims they see lots of follicles they may do a "freeze all" where they freeze your embryos and transfer later to give your body a chance to recover (as getting pregnant straight away increases risk of OHSS). Your AMH is really good and a positive sign xxx

thank you so much for sharing your experience, this helps me to keep my mind at ease, I think the bit that stuck in my head was the part about the risk but not the part about them doing the best they can to minimise this, I hope all is going well on your end, sending you good luck and positive vibes xx

Hi I’m 32 years old, My AMH is 44 which is upper scale but within a norm as is yours. I had fresh IVF cycle in January 2023 we did ICSI due to hubs reduced sperm morphology &motility. I did not have the ovarian overstimulation syndrome. They collected 17 eggs and 15 were good quality, 13 fertilised and 4 got to the blastocyst stage so we were lucky. I am currently using up embryos from that cycle. My best quality one 4AA was used in fresh cycle and if I was to do another fresh cycle I would freeze all as I think it’s a lot for your body to ho through in a month and they always use the best grade one first where technically there is less chance of success than in FET. First transfer failed, I got my period 7 days post transfer (precisely 14 days after retrieval). I then had a FET with 4AB two months later but unfortunately another negative, it was misleading as period was late. I then decided to do some investigating and I had ERA test done, natural killer cells & plasma cells. I decided to try on native cycle as meds were not doing me any good and I naturally had the required thickness. All tests came back normal and we are now waiting to find out is our transfer in native cycle was successful with another 4AB. I did do a home pregnancy test and it is positive but It seems to be dropping as line is getting lighter so I am really not sure. I’m currently 11days post transfer. My blood test is booked for Thursday. We are from UK and using abroad clinic and we have 1 frozen embryo left 4BA.

Hi I hope you’re well. Thanks for sharing your experience, In my case luckily it didn’t result in ohss either , had 11 eggs collected, 8 were mature , 8 fertilised, 3 good grade blastocyst. Unfortunately our firs cycle has ended in MMC at the viability scan. I agree with you fresh transfer it’s a lot for the body to go through in such short period of time, mine is hopefully healing well and getting ready for the next Step (FET). I was quite shocked to find out one of my ovaries was enlarged to above 7 cm (on last’s week scan they were finally nearly back to normal). I hope your positive becomes stronger, and that your test goes well tomorrow! Wishing you all the best in this journey!, it’s a lot to go through, so hopefully this is your lucky time xx
