Hi everyoneI'm looking for a bit of advice - I've got my first appointment with our IVF consultant on the 6th April. I just had my results back from my AMH test and the information package for my protocol. My AMH was 80.2 pmol/L and they're pretty sure I'll get ovarian hyperstimulation - I had horrendous symptoms of this on the lowest possible dose of clomid too so this makes sense. I think the number is about double that expected of the high estimate for someone my age. It says "gentle treatment protocol" and any embryos will likely be frozen.
It looks like I'll have gonal-F and ganirelix injections.
What should I be asking my consultant about? I'm pretty nervous about overstimuation because it was really awful before.
Has anyone experienced a gentle protocol and can tell me a little more about it or know how it would be different?
Thank you so much for any replies/help or even if you just read this. I'm so excited to be starting this journey and resding this forum has been really great in the lead up to all of this.
😊

Hi, I have an AMH of 65pmol. We did IVF for male factor, I have PCO but not PCOS so was ovulating regularly.
I was on 150 gonal F for my first round and dropped down to minimum dose of 125 for the second round (this wasn't specifically called 'gentle' but I was told it was the least they would do). First round I got 29 eggs, 21 mature, and second round I got 27 eggs, 21 mature. Sounds like they are recommending a freeze all cycle which means you can be given a different trigger injection to calm the ovaries down after collection, which really reduces the risk of OHSS. The extra wait is annoying but it will be worth it! With the correct trigger I didn't get OHSS and felt okay throughout, though you probably will need a few days to recover after egg collection. Good luck!
Thank you so much for replying Luka_Ru that was really helpful - ill make my manager aware of the possible extra time off for sure. How did you feel taking gonal F? Did you also have frozen cycles? Is there medication involved in the 'implantation' phase of a frozen cycle too or just for the egg collection?
I felt fine on Gonal F, no side effects at all. Yes we did frozen cycles, I'm now 39 weeks weeks pregnant from the second one (eek!).
The protocol for the frozen embryo transfer will depend on your clinic, you can. do completely natural, medicated or some are sort of in between I think. We did medicated cycles which involves taking oestrogen tablets and then adding progesterone once your lining is thick enough.
