Hi everyone, so I had my basal scan yesterday and will be starting treatment soon. I've been put on the short cycle with 450 menopur daily. I have a low Amh of 0.9 and am 38. Have been reading so many posts on this forum where quite a few are saying that this high dose didn't work as well in people with low amh. Was wondering what your experience was and any advice. When I asked about it they just said this is the common protocol. Should I be asking for lower dose? It's out first try and it's on the NHS so wanting to have highest rate of success.

450 menopur with low Amh - advice please
Hey, just thought I’d give you my experience. I started on 300iu of menopur on long protocol, I ended up stimming for 17 days. At egg collection they got 4 eggs, 2 mature, one fertilised but abnormally.
Next cycle I done short protocol but with 225 gonal f and 150 menopur. Only stimmed for 10 days. Got 8 eggs collected, 6 were injected with icsi and 3 fertilised.
Really the first round is like a trial round to see how your body responds. P.S my AMH was 2.4 when last tested in October last year.
Good luck to you xx
Hi Megandmog, thanks for your advice both here and in another thread. So it seems I am on the short protocol similar to your second round but with higher dose of menopur. I will take your advice and see how this first round goes. I guess it takes the edge off it as I won't expect much then if I see it more as a training run.
I had my first round of ivf in June I'm 37 with amh of 2.8 ish ( prob lower now as was tested over a year ago)
I was on 450 of meriofert for 14 days got 7 eggs, 6 mature, 1 5AA blast ( failed) and 2 lower quality in freezer.
I wasnt given the option and went with what the consultant advised. I have heard of success with low amh with natural ivf but I think only a couple of places offer that?
As others have said ,they label your first go as a trial to see how you respond to medication I think.
Wishing you all the luck lovely xxx
Thanks for sharing your experience. It's been the same for me. Wasn't really given an option. They didn't even talk about different protocols. When I asked whether this protocol was different because I had low Amh they simply said that it's the most common protocol. Wishing you all the best as well! So nice to have this forum to ask all these questions. Really helps! Xx
I am 43. I did Long protocol with 450 Menopur and only got 3 eggs, I then switched to short protocol 450 menopur and got 13 eggs, 9 fertilised and I got my bfp but sadly lost it later.
There is mixed reporting on here in terms of whether high dose or low dose works. I think it is a bit trial and error and your first cycle does tend to be a learning one (although a lot of people are often successful). One of my biggest recommendations is you have to trust your clinic and whilst it might look like a lot of people on here have certain results it is only a small % of the TTC population on here, and often people who have a story to tell who come on here rather than all the other people where it worked first time etc. So my advice would be trust your clinic - but I am sure loads of people will disagree good luck xx
Thanks for your advice. Yes you are right, everyone will have different experiences which might not necessarily be shared on this platform. I will just stop stressing about it and just trust them. Will hopefully start next week 😅
I’m 35 and did a short protocol with 450 menopur.I had a 5-10% chance of getting pregnant and only release 9 eggs a cycle.I completed my IVF cycle on August/Sept and I’m currently 13 weeks pregnant with some frozen embryos for the future.I would keep the recommended dosage xx
Ahh thanks and congratulations! They gave me a 5% chance as well so this really gives me hope! Just have to keep positive thoughts and not stress as much. Have thought about starting acupuncture, perhaps that can help me. Do you have any other advice for a newbie?
How old are you? Tell me about your history
Hello, so I have a low Amh at 0.9 plus they found only four follicles the first scan although this next scan they found 8 so I guess thats good. I am 38 years and have been trying for one year. I should have probably said that my partner has low mobility sperm as well although that's easier to circumvent. Went for a basal scan yesterday. I have always been very regular but this month I am ten days late. Have taken pregnancy tests which have all been negative. So the doctors decided to give me a drug to induce my period. I will take it for five days and then hopefully my period will come and then we will start treatment on D2 of my cycle. I started taking ubiquinol and am thinking perhaps this is the reason for my delayed period. Anyway, any advice you have would be greatly appreciated 😊
How much unibiquol are you taking? Is it just the egg quality?
