thrush ahead of FET

Hi there. I’ve been on a course of 2 strong types of antibiotics due to an infection caused by an ectopic pregnancy. It has seemingly caused me to get thrush (must be connected as haven’t had thrush for about 20 years). I’m likely to be having my next FET in approximately 3 weeks so is taking an over the counter canesten type medication advisable? I’ve used some organic virgin coconut oil around the area for now which is providing an element of relief… Don’t want this to delay the next FET ideally!

Hi Rainbowretrieval, I’m sorry to hear about your ectopic. I think most clinics will want the trush cleared before doing the physical transfer. As you are 3 weeks away, you have time to treat it but if call the clinic to confirm what treatment they want you to take (I think the oral tablet is an absolute no ). Good luck with your transfer xx

Call your clinic and explain the situation and as the FET is 3 weeks away , they should be able to advice you what medication you should use If uncomfortable at the moment try applying natural yoghurt for some relief

Take care

Janet

Hello, I’m sorry to hear about your ectopic. A weeek before my last FET I had thrush which I hadn’t had for year either! My spoke to my consultant who advised me to take the pessary (not the oral tablets) for three days, one each day. He told me it shouldn’t stop the transfer even if I did have it, they’d just have to clean the area.

The thrush seemed to go away and the FET went ahead. I also actually read an article that said taking the pessary medicine a week before a transfer would help implantation but I’m not sure how true that is! I did get a BFP but it sadly ended in miscarriage.

Good luck with it and I hope the thrush clears up soon xxx

Sorry to hear it didn’t work out for you. My period is late (definitely not pregnant!) so has bought me some time to take some medication x

I had thrush a week before my FET(progynova usually causes it for me). I treated it with canesten cream and internal pessary and it cleared just in time for FET. I’m now pregnant!

If you are worried then check with your clinic. Lots of luck to you xx

I am taking canesflor from ERA test results which helps to also clear thrush and the consultant told me this would not impact FET and that a lot of women that he does transfer for, are on these probiotics at time of transfer and after. Good luck with your transfer 🤞🏽

hi Rainbowretrieval,

I had thrush before my egg collection. Usual treatments like Canestan hadn't done the trick. FS recommended boric acid pessaries - the name was off-putting but they really worked.

Hope that's some use!
