Thrush due to Cyclogest!!

Hi ladies

So I’ve been taking the progesterone pessaries for about 11 days and think I’ve developed thrush 😫

I have emailed my clinic to ask their advice, and they are generally very quick at responding, but meantime does anyone know - will this hinder my absorption of the progesterone, and can I take anything for the thrush? As of Mon morning I’ll be 3 days away from OTD.

I am pretty worried 😟

Thanks in advance x

I wouldn't of thought it would make difference but if your worried could you switch to using them rectally? Xx

I think I might have to. I’ve asked clinic this too. x

That's how I use them and find them less messy. Hope they get back to you soon.x

were you allowed to take anything to treat thrush? xx

I haven't had it however at my appointment with midwife she did tell me thrush is quite common in pregnancy and if I have it I need to let them know so it must be treatable but I would personally double check before taking anything just to be on the safe side. Sorry not much help xx

No I will of course wait for my clinic to confirm. Just wondered if I had to wait for it to go by itself (which I would obviously do if there was no safe treatment!). Thanks lovely, you’ve been helpful xx

Hi I had the same thing immediately!! I find them horrendous in the front passage and so much easier in the back. Go to the chemist and get a big box of disposable gloves and gently insert rectally...helps with constipation too and no gross leaking or irritation for your front bits! Is nowhere near less effective rectally, hav my bloods checked regularly and 45 taking one in the am and one in the pm my levels are perfect. Ps the only issue can be timing post bowel movement as it takes 4hrs to fully absorb them (according to my Consultant) if I go within half an hr of inserting one I just pop another one in. Good luck xxx

I had this too! I changed onto another progesterone. My clinic weren't worried about absorption, just wanted me to be comfortable. Weird cause I had cause I didn't get it next time. You can use canesten....or if you want to be natural you can try natural yoghurt. Hope it settles down.xx

It feels okay this morning so I’ve gone ahead as normal. I had some difficulty last night so maybe just irritated it. Hopefully it’ll settle today! Ahhhh 🤪

Eeeeeeeeeeek! Bet that’s uncomfortable. A friend of mine used canesten with thrush when pregnant. Wait and see what clinic says too. Remember they’re two hours ahead so not long to wait in the morning. Is this because of your hulk like tendencies? 😜 big hugs x

My hulk-smash tendencies may have had a bearing 😏

All those hormones... they’ll be having some effect somewhere not pleasant. Let me know how you go on x

Oh that’s the last thing you need! Hope you can get it sorted quick and at least you’re on the type of pessaries that can be used rectally too, by the sounds of it x

I ended up with bad thrush while taking cyclogest. My clinic said I could take any of the canasten products except the tablet so I got the pessary and the cream. I ended up also using pessaries rectally after that as was getting so sore from them at the front 😖 xxx

I’ve never gone to the dark side 😆 I will if I have to but I feel okay today so will see what the clinic says! Hope you’re doing well Amanda xxx

I never thought I would either but honestly after I done it I wished I’d done that the whole time, it’s honestly so much easier and less messy 🙈 lol.

Yeah see what the clinic says 🙂

I’m doing ok thank you ☺️ xxx

You can use canasten just NOT the tablets. Im very prone to thrush and found the canasten wash very affective, used it watered down in the shower every few days while I was using pesseries. Check with your clinic to keep your mind at rest though x

The wash could be a good idea just on its own, thanks! I think I’ve just got a bit of irritation, not thrush at the mo. I feel better today so hopefully it’s nothing more, but I might get myself the canesten wash, didn’t know there was such a thing! xx

The wash is brilliant I swear by it. I dilute it half and half with water to make it go further and I find that if I use it regularly especially during times when I feel a flare up coming, I remain free of thrush which is a breakthrough for me and my sensitive skin!

Sorry to hear this. I have just gone through the first round where they told me to take Cyclogest rectally and it has been soo much easier. Once you give it a go I am sure you won't go back :)xx

Externall cream should be fine, nothing internal or oral.

Did they get back to you?

They told me to bathe my lady garden in chamomile tea!! 😳

I don’t think it’s thrush it’s just irritation, it’s mainly when I do my bedtime pessary

in reply toWeeMrsH

Wow. Ha ha. Good to know. Hope you get better soon xx
