Hi ladies,

I had my trigger injection yesterday and I am booked in for my egg collection for tomorrow morning . I have gone through everything with my doctor so I am clear on what to expect but I am sooooo nervous . Can anyone share some experiences please ? Are you completely asleep throughout the procedure or can you hear what is happening ? Is it painful ? How long after can you return to normal duties ? I was thinking to go back to work the next day would that be advisable ? I know doctor said not to drive for 24 hrs depending on how you feel . Did anyone feel very unwell after ?

Finally how long after the egg retrieval did your embryo transfer happen Out of interest ?

Thanking you all in advance 😊

Hi, There is really nothing to worry about. They put a cannula in your hand and you have a nice sleep then you wake up once it is all over. Your be a little sore and tired for a few days I think you can’t drive for 48hrs. I work from home so logged back on later that day. And usually it’s a 5 day transfer so yours might be on Saturday?

Hope this information helps and good luck xx

Hi dimiC, there is nothing to worry as such in EC and the worry actually gets started after the transfer precisely in 2WW.

Does your clinic gives GA if yes you won't know anything and will be knock out through the procedure and will walk up a little heavy and to some cookies and tea afterwards 😬

If your clinic gives the local anesthesia which was given to me in my transfer in june which I thought was too scary as I never had or heard of it but it wasn't bad either.

The transfer usually happens on day3 or day5,the latter is frequently practiced.

Hope this was helpful.

Xx

hi there yes they have said I will be given a light anaesthetic so I will be put to sleep so hopefully I won’t feel anything . I did get a message to say no driving and light duties for 2 days post the egg retrieval but hopefully that won’t be the case . This process has needed a lot of time off and appointments so the sooner it’s over the better . Fingers cross all will be ok and there will be no need for anything more .

Thank you for your response xx

Assuming light anesthesia means you will be awake during the procedure but will not feel anything as such

hi DimiC I went for mine on Thursday and got anaesthetic woke up after 30 min. Just felt bloated and mild pain and can home after an hour. Was tired but relaxed and took time off just to quite the mind. Slight pains over the weekend but I only had pain meds once a day, just so that I can sleep because you frequent the loo due to drinking a lot of water which I did( a tip I got from the ladies on this forum)Had about 2.5 litres in the first 2 days and tea in between and back to 2l a day with tea. Experienced back pain and hot water bottle helped with that.

yes i had general anaesthetic which is a nice nap 😴

The rest of the day post EC I was fine, my worst pain was the next day so I used a hot water bottle, paracetamol and spasfon (not sure if that’s available where you are) but that really helped.

The constipation is the worst so I would recommend doing all you can to avoid that. I had a 2 day transfer so I was still tender when I went in for that but it all went ok.

I had what they called something like "mild sedation" I think, they didn't call it general anaesthetic but essentially that's exactly what it was. Completely knocks you out, you won't hear or feel anything and will wake up all sleepy on the ward and wait for them to bring you tea and biscuits. I thoroughly enjoyed all my egg collections 🤣
