I am currently waiting for the confirmation that I can go ahead with an egg sharing round of IVF in the new year but have a question. I understand that before egg collection you need to have a negative PCR test but do you have to self isolate before the procedure - I ask as I’m a frontline NHS worker and with the current rise in covid infections etc it worries me that something will happen and cause an issue etc.
Any advice or response would be grateful!
TIA

Before my transfer in October I had to isolate from the PCR test day which was 2 days before egg collection until my transfer day which was about a week in total. Double check with your clinic for definite dates though. Hope this helps?
Thanks so much for the reply! I did wonder if this would likely be the case, I’m just concerned how I would get round it with work - I didn’t want to tell them too much as they haven’t been very helpful in the past but I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it!
I think most clinics expect you to completely isolate after the PCR until EC is done, and then it seems variably afterwards (mine did not require isolation after EC although I did anyway as I did not want anything affecting my chances), but your clinic will have its own protocol so you will need to check with them. xx
Thanks for your reply - I know what you mean about limiting things affecting your chances. My manager isn’t the easiest to discuss things with and hasn’t been supportive when I was undergoing IUI. I’ll check with my clinic and see what they suggest/want me to do! But thank you so much for your response! Xx
I have seen some women say they have been signsed off sick so they could isolate for treatment. Obviously a last resort but might help in your situaiton if needed. Best of luck and stay safe over the winter doing all you wonderful NHS people do xx
I am sorry your boss is being difficult about it, I hate when I read comments like that.
When I did my PCR test, I continue having normal activity. I am lucky I can work from home, but I would have continue carry on going to the office, as the only options are doctors note or holidays. Just be careful and i am sure everything will be fine
She’s difficult about most things - not just this! I’ve had a nightmare with sorting flexible working due to childcare reasons and that’s just been one thing after the other!I would love it if working from home was an option but I’m a radiographer in the NHS so as well as being patient facing it’s also very manual and something I can’t do at home lol 😂 as much as I wish I could some days!
But thank you for the advice and reply! I’ve got a little while to consider options! X
We initially were told we would need to isolate for three days (following PCR and before EC) so we made arrangements for that. One nurse then later told us we should isolate a week before then a third nurse told me at a scan I should already be isolating (2 weeks before EC!)We were just very careful for the two weeks, but had to continue to work (also work for the NHS). It seems like the clinic didn't have an actual procedure and they made it up as they went along.
I'm also frontline NHS, as is my partner. Thankfully my clinic required only a negative PCR, no self isolation, otherwise I'm not sure how we would have done it!
