Ovulated before egg collection

Hi,

Just checking whether anyone has ever encountered this. I was due to have my egg collection yesterday after triggering on Monday evening at 10.30. Yesterday morning I had very bad stomach pains, I didnt think much about it but it was a struggle to get to the clinic. Anyway, I mentioned the pain to my doctor and he suggested that they do a scan before the retrieval, I knew by then something was up. Well it turned out that the pains I had yesterday morning were ovulation pains. I had ovulated 3 out of the 4 eggs we were meant to retrieve. With just one egg left, we decided to cancel and try again next month. Anyway, the OBGYN advised we stay away from sex due to the risk of multiples. Anyway, with my low amh and with just one egg left my husband and I decided to just ignore the advice and go for it. I just wanted to know if anyone has gone through this and whether they have had success with just the one naturally.

This journey is really not for the fainthearted, what a roller coaster.

Update

Period arrived arghhh. Now I start the long protocal.

Thank you all.

Oh goodness poor you that’s fairly traumatic to get the that stage. Thinking of you. Why not give it a go naturally as you say! Xx

in reply toamandac84

Thank you Amanda for your response. It was traumatic to say the least. I heard that it was almost unheard of for this to happen. Hopefully the Ob will learn from this and make any changes they need to. It was upsetting as I was sent back to the recovery room with 2 other women who had just retrieved 10 eggs each. I'll update you if I manage to get pregnant with the one.

Hi Mumbi. Shouldn’t really say this, but I think I would have done the same if it was me! Good luck with that, and I shall be thinking of you. Diane

Thank you Diane for your words. I will keep you posted on the outcome.

Hi, yes this happened to me, but only one egg out of four ovulated!!! Didn't know it had happened until they went for egg collection, thought that couldn't happen when you down regulate but IVF is full of surprises! Good luck.

Thank you for your response. Glad you got 3 and I hope it was successful. I had my appointment today and they suggested long protocol for greater control. Hopefully I wont need it.

Yeah to right! I would have gone for it as soon as we got home! Of course there’s a better chance, your body has been primed for fertilisation, everything’s ready! Maybe you could get an extra treat of two babies! That’s the reason they don’t stimulate your ovaries and let you have sex, likely to succeed with more than one!

Wishing you luck!!!

Extra treat of 2 would be wonderful Jojo. Thank you for your well wishes. I started getting sore nipples 4 days ago but of course this is probably the Ovitrelle trigger shot...damn this body of mine.

I read a news article a while ago where a couple had ignored the advice and had sex (as well as an egg retrieval and embryo transfer) and if I remember correctly they ended up with triplets, two from the ivf and a third conceived naturally! So bizarre but a complete package :)

Wishing you lots of luck!

in reply toKempton

Thanks Kempton, unfortunately it wasnt meant to be so starting long protocal in 2 weeks. Thank you for your well wishes.

Hey?! I’ve done the 2 week wait for you?? Did it work??

in reply toJojoWash

Hey my lovely, unfortunately no. Just goes to show that even with timed intercourse it really is a 50/50 chance to get pregnant. I start my long protocal in 2 weeks, so here's to hoping. Where are you in your journey?

Ah sorry.. we are having a break at the minute, suffered a miscarriage in October so body needs to rest. Hopefully next little one will stick. Awaiting results from pathology to see if there was anything they could pick up. Have bloods to test me for disorders that affect pregnancy such as blood clotting 2nd December x. It’s our second miscarriage in a row so very deflated.

Good luck in your journey 💖

in reply toJojoWash

I'm really sorry to hear that, that is truly heartbreaking. I hope the tests give you a result that you need for a future successful pregnancy. I had a loss as well in June, it was a missed miscarriage. After tests, we found out that the baby had a few of the trisomy. So I can say its always a good idea to do testing where you can.

If you ever want to talk, I'm here.

Hi hunny this happened to me on my first round, but they hadn’t realised until they sedated me, and we didn’t end up with any eggs! For the following two rounds they added Clomid to increase the numbers but also upped my centrorelix from 1 injection to 2 each morning and that seems to have solved my early ovulation issue . Good luck with your next round 😘 x x

in reply toJonesjp

Wow, that must have been even worse to be sedated. Were you on the long protocol after?

Hi hun, I’ve been in long protocol for all three rounds including the first one I ovulated on, but it’s the centrorelix that they upped for the next 2 that seems to have stopped it happening again thankfully x x

in reply toJonesjp

That's great news. They will be monitoring me with scans pretty closely this time round and they will trigger earlier than before.

That’s good so you have some reassurance, it’s such a hard process and it can really knock the stuffing out of you! I know we know it can happen but I always third really disappointing to at least not get the opportunity of the 2WW it feels like you’ve been cheated!! X x

in reply toJonesjp

Absolutely, that is exactly what I wanted. Where are you in your journey so far?

Just had our third fresh cycle EC was yesterday so a bit sore today. But disappointed as we had 12 follicles and only 5 eggs which is frustrating as we had less follicles last time and more eggs, each round is sooo different! Sadly only 2 have fertilised and as long as they hang on in there we are down for transfer on Thursday. I no I should be glad we have some embies but I can’t help be a bit disappointed based on our follicle count. The joys of IVF!! 😘

in reply toJonesjp

Positive thinking and well done with getting this far. Sometimes all we have is a little faith and trust in God or the higher being. Keep us posted and wishing you well with this journey.
