Agony with prontogest injections...is that normal??

I have been on these for just over a week and am having them every other day. Yesterday a new person (ex nurse) did it and I have been in AGONY since yesterday evening. The pain was so excruciating during the night that I couldn't sleep. Less painful now but still hurts a lot every time I move (been in bed most of the day) and hobble when I walk. Even when I am just lying down, my thigh and buttock hurt. Yesterday my toes were even hurting on the same side. Has anyone else experienced this?? It's making me feel rather worried.....

I'm sorry to hear this lovely, they are rather brutal compared to subcutaneous injections! Unfortunately I have done so many I have lost count now 🙈

What location are you putting them? Above the top of the bum crack level on the outer quadrant? Doing them slightly higher up like this really helped me. I think occasionally it can pinch a nerve, or make the whole muscle group harden / tense up for a day or two, but I always found it goes away after a couple days.

Talk to your clinic if you are worried or want extra advice about where around the bum you can put them that is a little more comfortable is all I can say xx

Hey thanks for the reply! I had excruciating pain for three days and still a lot of discomfort but it has eased some. I think the injection must have hit something it shouldn’t have because although theyre often sore… nothing like this. Which has been debilitating for a week now!! Waaaaaah.,

I had a similar experience. I would suggest relaxing the leg/bum as much as possible when injection goes in. massage and place heat (hot water bottle/heat pad) on area after. I actually used a massage machine for 5 mins after - and it made such a difference to lumps forming. my partner was administering mine at home so easier to use a massage machine. Good luck - hope they will be worth it!

Yes hopefully be wort it but OUCH. I had excruciating pain for three days and nearky a week on, still a lot of discomfort but it has eased some. Cant lie on my back or that sude. Which means im hardly sleeping!! Boobs are big and so tender so front lying isnt easy!!!! I think the injection must have hit something it shouldn’t have because although theyre often sore… but nothing like this. Just wow!

Before use heat up the shot in very warm water this helps thin the oil and allows a smootherinjections or even roll the shot in your warm hands for a few moments Try to relax as much as possible and apply moist heat after injection ie microwaveable heat pad-if aware of a knot or tight spot in your hips try to avoid that area and use alternate hips

It will be worth it

Yes Janet! I think maybe the one causing such pain has hit a nerve. The other have been painful but not like this!!!! Ive been in excruciating pain a couple of days this week and still in a lot now. Thanks for the tips and encouragement though xx
