Prontogest Injections Painful

Hi I am administrating the above injections doing them I am fine. It is the pain afterwards and lumpy areas. I have rubbed the area to warm it up and suit ice packs afterwards and applying ice packs during the day. Has anyone got and recommendations how to easy the pain. I am having to lay down on the bed to ease the pain struggling sitting down and getting back up.

Also when are you expected to feel any symptoms? I had my transfer on 5 days ago.

Hi, Oh I really feel for you - I had to inject lentogest (which I think is similar, progesterone - just another name) and that was by far my least favourite and most painful injection. After some trial and error I found heat more effective then cold, I would pop the little vial in my pocket or bra for 5 mins before I injected so it would get quite warm, then I would used a microwaveable heat bag on my bum for 5- 10 mins after I had injected. On days when I took the time to do this I noticed less bumpiness and felt less hard when sitting etc. I am already dreading this injection when thinking about my next cycle.

Re symptoms I think can vary - I was still feeling the symptoms linked to my HCG trigger shot to start. And then didn’t really feel any symptoms other then insane tiredness which kicked in around day 7, tested positive on day 11 following 5 day transfer.

Good luck x

Thank you I will try keeping the vial warm tonight. Going to my GP in the morning as the pain is becoming unbearable. Congratulations for your result I hope you have safe and healthy pregnancy 🌺

Hi Bakeyy. Two ways. You either melt an ice cube on the spot before injecting, or ask your pharmacy or GP for some lignocaine gel (Emla cream). You put a blob as big as a marble on the spot and do not rub it in. You need a clear dressing to pop over the top to keep it in place and leave for 20-30 minutes, then wipe off and inject, no pain and reduces after pain lots. Children in hospital know it as "magic cream" used before putting a drip up. Inject slowly and remove the needle slowly. Good luck! Diane

Hi Diana, I totally forgot to ask my GP for the gel you recommended as I was overwhelmed with pain and other side effects to the treatment. I have spoken with my consultant and she’s said I can use it. The side effects are awful. Am not able eat now getting indigestion 😥

Hi Bakeyy. Oh dear. Could you speak to the pharmacist at Boots or Lloyd's chemists and see if you could get some from there. Alternatively, ring your GP surgery up and see whether you can speak to one of the doctors over the phone for a prescription, or nurse specialist if you have one there. Don't forget the clear dressings to cover the "blob" when you put it on, so it doesn't get everywhere. Good luck! Diane

I will ask my husband to get it for me. Just resting with a hot water bottle on the painful area thank for all you advice. 🌺
