Prontogest injection site

Hi again ladies,

I had my transfer today and all went smoothly which was like some form of miracle! But they told me my progesterone was slightly low so I’ve been prescribed prontogest injections. Now I feel like the teach was very vague on the actual insertion of the needle. Would you recommend the thigh or top of the bum cheek? I know it’s not going to be nice any which way from the sounds of it. But I just want to do it in the best spot. I don’t know if I will be able to let my partner do it or if he will even be able to do it ha. So the thigh might be my only option but if anyone has experience of where they found less painful please let me know!

Thanks so much 🤗 xx

I personally have found the glute less painful than the thigh but obviously the thigh is much more convenient if you are applying it yourself. Just be aware the glute one goes in higher than you might think, not that close to the bum cheek. x

Definitely recommend glute not thigh. My husband does the injection and I lie down. It’s sort of in line with top of bum crack but there’s some good videos on YouTube! I Warm the prontogest vial in bra for an hour before then I apply heat after injection and massage for a couple mins to disperse it better and stop painful lumps! Good luck x

Hi, I would suggest getting your partner to do it into the hip/ butt cheek area because its intra muscular it can hurt when you walk after injecting the thigh. As I had to inject myself I did the thigh but after two times I asked to switch to Lubion as its so much easier and is just injected into the tummy and doesn't hurt. It is a lot more expensive though.

I did it in the thigh once and couldn’t walk for three days so I would definitely recommend the backside too, and if your husband is able to then ask him to do it. Mine did mine but occasionally I had to do it myself too. Top right quarter of the cheek. Warm it up next to skin first and then massage the area afterwards to disperse it!!! The day I did it in my thigh was possibly my worst during this last round of IVF, the pain was unreal x good luck

Thanks so much Skittles11 Yellowlove Meeandembryos & Hanj10 I went for the top of the glute and my boyfriend did it and I was actually fine. I heated the vial, then ran the needle under warm water before injecting and I had also had my hair dryer on my butt to warm that up well before injecting. Gave it a really thorough massage afterwards and walked about and kept tensing the area on and off and it seems to have not been bad at all, or could have just been a lucky first go! Haha. I was mainly dreading the needle going in with it being bigger and thicker but it was ok and I barely felt it. Actually super proud of my partner as usually he’d shy away but he was great! Thanks for the advice xxx
