IVF Injection Leaks

Hi everyone , I am having issues mixing Merional ( Same as Gonal F) 150IU x 2 . I have to take the water first from another mini bottle then put into each 150 Iu but I think I take air in my efforts to take all of it and sometime my injection has pressure it just sprayed the medicine out -few drops. On top of this when my partner pulls out the needle this whole leakes huge drop. Does losing few drops has impact on the dose? Just read Z track method may be used to close that whole . Have you leaked your medications before?

Hi Babycomevtrue, if Merional is like Menopur in powder form with a mixing solution then the actual medication is the powder not the liquid. When I used menopur, I had some leaking during mixing due to the vacuum in the vial and the type of mixing needle I was given but this did not affect my overall response to the medication.

Also, got better with time and found out hubby was the better mixologist so gave him this task whilst I prepped the other injections and injected myself.

It is harder at first but you can get the hang of it. I always did all of my own injections and actually I would recommend this. The medicine is spraying and leaking because of the vacuum created inside the ampule. You need to relax the plunger of the syringe to ease the vacuum before pulling out. Also, are you able to place the tip of the needle inside the visible "window" at the bottom of the ampule? While held upside down? This is the easiest way to get all of the medicine out. You can then turn the ampule back to being right side up, and then wait ten seconds before you carefully pull out the needle. This should help with the spray and leaking problem. It will get easier!
