Prontogest 100mg - Buttocks Pain!

Hello,

I started using Prontogest 100mg last night, injected into the buttocks at a particular site into the muscle. At the time of administrating the injection, there was no pain or anything. But wow, today my left buttocks feels like it’s done a real hard workout and it’s SO sore!! I’m limping it’s that sore… I look like a penguin. I’ll have to try it on the right side tonight to even out the pain but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same or if anyone has any tips to ease the pain?

We followed the instructions exact so I don’t think it’s been done wrong! Xx

I used to use that but could do it in the tummy too.. since it's a thick gel it would really hurt (a numb ache) and would feel lumpy sometimes. It started the feel better almost the longer I did it but it wasn't pleasant... by far the worst injection. But that's just me!

Ohh I have to use in the bottom, upper quarter. It is the worst injection isn’t it! X

I have had a similar thing with lentogest. The injection itself isnt painful (mercifully), but afterwards I feel like I have played a very vigorous squash game - like a pulled muscle feeling. I suppose its not surprising since you're injecting into the muscle.

My husband suggested stretching the muscle (by doing gentle stretches), which seemed to help, as counterintuitive as it seems.

Gentle exercise, got it! It feels like it needs a good stretch! X

I used protogest every other day. I was told by the nurse to slightly heat the liquid as it’s oil based, so you can do that rolling it gently between your hands or stick it in your bra for half an hour.

After the injection I was told to massage the site to make sure the liquid dispersed and didn’t build up in the one spot.

Your right to do alternate butt cheeks

I only really started getting pain in weeks 11 and 12 as the muscle becomes quite bruised by that time and there is a limited site to inject

Eek I’m using it every day and it’s already painful! I warmed it up, rubbed the area before and after as well and thought it’d be okay. I heard that I could use a hot water bottle on the site after the injection for ten minutes or so, so I’ll try that tonight! I’ll do whatever it takes to help this bean/a stick so I’m okay with it… just feeling tender at the moment in both the belly and now the bum! Xx

Sounds like you are doing all you can!! I like you kept saying however much it hurts I’m determined to carry on to help the cause!!

For us it worked I’m 19 weeks - just keep going you’ll get there and celebrate the last injection

Good luck xx

Such wonderful news, congratulations 💗

I really hope this works… I’ve had everything thrown at me this time for our fourth transfer and if it doesn’t, I don’t really know where to go from here! So fingers crossed 🍀🤞🏻 Xxx

Emla to numb the site. I put the oil in some warm water or under my hot water bottle. Once whilst I prepare the needles. Once the site is number and the oil is warmed up. It’s easy to administer. Alternate sides too. Exact spot should measure forefinger on hip bone and thumb should fall where you need to job. You can go a cm around that spot. My hubby jabbed me once… then he realised he forgot to add the actual shot to the syringe…

Ouch… poor you! Thankfully mine are pre-filled syringes which saves some time. Last nights was a little better, I am sore this morning but it’s not a shock to me! I put a hot water bottle on the site for ten minutes before, and gently put the oil near it too and I then used the hot water bottle after for ten too! I actually re-did the left side incase I then hurt the right too much to be able to walk 😂 xx

I’ve done a lot of these injections! I understand what you’re going through. A couple of tips from me:

- Put the vial in your bra for half an hour before injection

-Use Emla cream (tiny dot) on the injection site before injecting. This made a big difference to me. You can buy at the pharmacy.

- Inject the needle quite quickly but inject the liquid slowly.

- Rub/ massage the area afterwards

- Do some exercise afterwards. Squats/ walking round the block/ up the stairs etc. You need to disperse the solution in the muscle and this helps.

-Defo alternate sides. You will need to as you will likely bruise so you’ll need new injection sites.

Once you get the hang of it, you’ll be fine. The last round I used it, the first injection made me cry and then I got into the swing of it! Good luck.

X

Thank you so much for the tips. The hot eater bottle helped a little last night… I wouldn’t say the pain is any worse today after last nights jab, but I am struggling to move without flinching in pain.

I feel like someone has given me a really hard kick in the left buttocks and left a big internal bruise…😂 it frigging hurts … xx
