Suspected miscarriage?

Just trying to clear my head as I don’t really know who else to talk too.

Had our first FET on 16th April and got our BFP on day 12.

However, last Saturday I had a few mild cramps, and some of the cyclogest residue looked a little brown. Over the week, I noticed a what I thought was brown blood when I wiped on a handful of occasions.

I rang my clinic on Thursday for advice, and I guess looking for reassurance. They booked me in at the EPU for Friday.

On Friday, the EPU found a sac, which they said was small and it looked empty. So, they took blood for HCG test, and have had that repeated today.

Apparently my HCG has risen, but not as much as they would expect and the bleeding and cramping is happening more now.

I’ve accepted that this is looking like I will miscarry, but what I’m finding really frustrating is that the hospital have asked me to go back tomorrow for yet another scan. What’s the point?

When I asked if I should stop the meds, the doctor asked “what meds” as though she hadn’t read the notes. I explained this was a FET and she said to keep going until tomorrow as she didn’t know what to advise.

I can only guess they are following protocol for a ‘pregnancy of unknown location’ but it’s not unknown, it’s just a sac in my womb that hasn’t developed. I don’t know why we are delaying the inevitable. I just want to move on.

Thank you if you’ve read this far.

So, what next? Assuming I’m told to stop meds tomorrow and then have a full bleed, how long do I have to wait for my next FET? Can I start again from my next period?

Just need something to focus on.

Im sorry to hear that it’s happening to you. It’s never easy, hang in there 💪🏼 The doctor wants to see if there’s any development or if the sac is still empty so keep taking your meds for one more day and see how it’s looking tomorrow. It’s good that they want to double-check.

If it is indeed a miscarriage, you’ll bleed quite soon after stopping the meds. I would wait one cycle prior to starting a new FET because you want to give your body a chance to “normalise” so to speak. Your clinic may allow you to go straight into it though. When I was in a similar situation to you, I had to have a D&C, then it took 4 weeks for me to get my period.

Hang in there, sending you lots of good vibes xx

Are you technically five weeks pregnant? It’s normal to only see a sac at that stage? Or have I worked your dates out wrong? x

Hi Daisy,I think I’d be 6 weeks this weekend.

Thanks for replying.

I did wonder if it was a late implanter and maybe that was why it was measuring small, but the increased bleeding and cramping, coupled with the slow rise in HCG is pointing towards miscarriage I think. X

I am sorry you think it’s bad news, I’ve seen both good and bad news in this situation. I’ve had an empty sac at 6 weeks that never developed but I’ve seen lots of people on here who had that and then went back a week later and there was a heartbeat. Bleeding is also common in early pregnancy

If you so miscarry (and I so hope you don’t) I’ve found mine at this stage have just been like heavy periods, so try not to worry about that. Most clinics will want you to have one more period before you start again with an FET.

I know what you mean about something to focus on and I was the same with Some of my MC but do take some time to grieve before you start again if this is a MC as bottling it up doesn’t help and it does explode out in the end

I am wishing and hoping it’s not bad news for you xx

Hi Phoebe345,I’m sorry to hear of your situation, I’m actually going through the same thing at the moment. I went for my 7 week scan last week after IVF, I had had some spotting exactly like you explain so thought they may be an issue. The scan unfortunately showed an empty sac. I am waiting for another confirmation scan on

Thursday and until then I have to continue with medication which is torture isn’t it! I feel the same as you, it’s just prolonging the inevitable.

I was told that this process is mainly for natural pregnancy as people may have got their dates wrong so may just be earlier on than they thought. Obviously with IVF we know for definite but even so they still have to follow the same rule.

I miscarried on my last cycle too & once I stopped the medication I bled 4 days later. My clinic made me wait 1 full period before I could go again although this was for another fresh cycle so may be different for FET.

Thinking of you at what I totally understand is a difficult time x
