is this a miscarriage?

Apologies for the graphic image...

My OH and I aren't actively trying for a baby, we're both well over 40 and our DD (3 yo next week) keeps us busy. I have some medical issues that make me think I shouldn't have another baby. But given that we struggled conceiving, and now I have just one tube due to an ectopic pregnancy, we're not taking precautions.

That said, I've been feeling weird and tired for a while. Beginning of July, I had a very light bleeding as a period. Then after just 10 / 11 days I started spotting, I got a bit worried so checked if it was ovulation, and indeed the test was positive. Which was weird because I usually ovulate after 14/15 days from my period. Since then, I kept on bleeding, not enough to fill in a pad, but enough to feel always wet. Until yesterday, when I passed a clot that doesn't look like endometrium: it's about 3cm long, half a cm wide. It doesn't break into little pieces. If you don't mind, see the picture attached. And since passing that, I stopped bleeding.

So I started thinking this was a miscarriage. I keep thinking the ovulation test was positive because of beta HCG rather than because of LH. Given the size, I think I was about 7 weeks.

Can you give me your candid opinion if this makes sense, or if I'm just getting mad? I don't know why this thought is stuck in my mind, I should move on and prepare my DD's birthday. But I didn't manage to get rid of the clot, it's still locked into a jar. Which is a bit disgusting.

Please help!

Hey do a test if it was a miscarriage you will still have it in your system to show up a positive test usually miscarriages come when cramps and back pains well all mine have but everyone is different xx

The pregnancy test was negative, thank you for sharing your experience!

Hi, I definitely agree with the suggestion of taking a test. Even with early miscarriages the HCG takes time to leave your system (I had a complete miscarriage at 5 weeks and was still testing positive 2 weeks later) so it will give you a definitive answer and put your mind at ease x

To add - that doesn’t look like what I passed for my earliest loss which was much more like grey/cream tissue. I’d guess that’s a part of your lining which has shed unusually for some reason. Hope all is well x

I don’t recognise that as pregnancy tissue based on my experience, sorry you are having a torrid time x

Hi! To me this seems like a blood clot. They can be quite solid at times (I work at a maternity ward, so I've seen all kinds of clots 🤪). I think you should go to the doctor if you're worried. No need to neither keep nor bring the clot. But there might be good reasons to have a checkup as your bleeding is off schedule.

It is off schedule, period is expected in the 29th, so this happened a week before.

It could be premenopausal sign? Best to contact you gp and have it checked out? X

Don't know, I'm 43 after all but I have regular periods and the ovulation test is usually positive. If it's what Cinderella said is unrelated, still in going to check with my GP.

Hi, this doesn't look like the tissue I passed during my 2 miscarriages. It does look like some clots I've passed during a very hectic down regulation. Consultant said sometimes blood pools before it comes out and clots like this. One of mine was as big as the palm of my hand! Freaked me out a bit but all was fine.

Always worth a check though if your worried.x

Oh my, as big as your hands! That must've been freaking!

I think it’s endometrium, not a pregnancy tissue as the colour is not as bright red. And your hcg would still be positive if it was a pregnancy x
