Hydrosalpinx or not?

Hello ladies and merry christmas to everyone !

I wanted some advice .. 3 years ago i did hsg which found my left tube blocked( i cannot remember if it was hydrosalpinx or not ) but what i do remember is i did not read hydrosalpinx in the report ... so i did lap 3 days ago the surgeon told me if hydro will remove the tube... after the surgery he came to tell me that he only drained the cyst snd the tubes are fine .. i am really confused as how my tube was blocked 3 yrs ago and now he tells me the tubes are fine .. im going to see him in a week but i was wondering is this possible for a tube to unblock ? Im wondering if he didn’t remove it or didn’t bother to see if it is blocked or not or maybe its not hydrosalpinx is what blocking it .

Note that i went to 2 Gynecologists before : one told me there is hydro in my us and the other said no hydro is seen

Cysts can be mistaken for hydrosalpinx on us as they look very similar, if the lap says none found then that will likely be the right answer x

You are right but what made me skeptical is that my hsg showed a blockage how come now its gone

Hydrosalpinx can clear themselves! My fertility consultant said he sees plenty of women with transient hydrosalpinx so sometimes they might be present and mild and then at the next scan can have cleared up. If, for example it was just a little trapped fluid and not endometriosis that actually damages the tube then you've been in the "lucky" group where it's cleared on it's own 🙂 good luck xx

Hi Wishingforabump - I had 2 sonographers + 1 fertility consultant tell me that I appeared to have a hydrosalpinx on my tube. In fact, they were so convinced they recommended I have a laparoscopy prior to a FET to have the tube clipped/removed. However, the gynae surgeon said it was just an inclusion cyst and the dye test showed it was completely healthy. She told me afterwards, there are cysts that if are positioned near/over the Fallopian tube can defo make it appear hydrosalpinx-like.

That was my experience anyway. Wishing you the best for your fertility treatment xx

Hello, sorry to hear about the uncertainty. Have been there (in fact, still am). My HSG 5 years ago was clear. Since then, I’ve had it twice they thought they saw a double hydrosalpinx. Got scanned with some extra fancy scanner and then they were less sure - could be funny cysts.

My first ever fresh transfer they said ‘let’s try - if it won’t work you might have hydrosalpinx and we should remove the tube’. Well, I got a caesarean and daughter instead 😉 Have been trying for a sibling, so far 6 FETs with same batch blastocysts. No luck so far and they’ve again wondered about hydrosalpinx. Even offered to do a lap to check or remove. I don’t want to go through surgery, especially since they’re less than sure it actually is a problem they can treat. Hey ho, if five different consultants and a 30 year gynaecology experience sonographer can only guess with less than 50% certainty, clearly this isn’t an exact science...

Good luck, hope you get a successful transfer!

Hello thank you for your reply ,, i hope your daughter welcomes a baby brother / sister soon❤️ .. it is really confusing when everyone says different ... i did 2 cycles and both failed that it why i am wondering is it hydro? But then my surgeon says they are clear .. and then i ask what was tbe reason then for both failed cycles ...

I feel and hear you... after six failed transfers (batch of my daughter, all ace embryos) we keep failing, despite me having proven I can be pregnant. They maintain its just bad luck. It’s hard to believe if I’m honest... The lap they offered me was more to exclude it than a great hope. Hope you get through soon...
