16 eggs to 2 embryos - any success stories out there? + Questions to ask?

Hi all, Hope you are all doing well.

I know many of you will have been through the inevitable drop off in numbers from collection to day 5, but it came as a shock today. We had 16 eggs, only 6 fertilized, 5 made it to day 3 (3 good grade, 2 average )and then initially told 1 made a blastocyst today then a call 2 hours later to say another had grown quickly into another freezable blastocyst.

I'm a bit shaken as last time we went 7 to 5 blastocysts. I am so very grateful we have embryos - I know things could be a lot worse, but feel ever so defeated, especially as it is our final funded round.

Any advice from you lovely people would be gratefully received xxx

hello, I had 17 eggs collected & ended up with 2 blastocysts, both 4AA - I am currently 35 wks pregnant with the one we transferred x I too was shocked by the drops at each stage as with the initial number of 17 I thought we were guaranteed more than 2. We had a high abnormal fertilisation rate, so one to transfer and one to freeze was what I had hoped for from the call the day after collection 🤞🏼🙏🏼 x sending love for the transfer & lots of positive vibes x

Hi, no advice I'm afraid but I just wanted to send some compassion your way cos I know how it feels-it sucks! On my first round I had 15 eggs, 13 fertilised and only 2 blasts. On my second round I had 9 eggs, 7 fertilised and only 1 ungradeable early blast. It's so, so hard when you get a good amount of eggs and then your embryos dwindle to practically nothing. I've been assured that this is a normal and expected consequence of IVF. There's so much that comes down to luck. All I would say is that two embryos still means two chances, so don't write off those little embabies yet. Wishing that your luck turns around!

Thank you, I won't write them off! I think after the miscarriage a few months ago the bad news just felt like another blow, but I will keep hoping. Sending love xx

Hi lovely, this is a pretty normal drop off I think.

We had 18 eggs on our first cycle and ended up with 2 decent quality embryos and 2 fairly poor. I too was shocked by the drop off!

Xx

Thank you, think it's just the old problem of comparing with our first cycle and all the tension waiting for the call that got to me today xx

Hello, my first round I was 28 yo and we had 18 eggs collected and only 1 day 5 blastocyst (4AB). To say we were shocked and upset is an understatement! Don't lose hope, it only takes 1 good embryo - ours is now a 2.5 year old little girl.Sending you lots of positive thoughts x

In my last round we had 16 eggs collected, only 4 fertilized but we ended up with 2 embryos and I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant with our fresh transfer 🥰

24 follicles, 16 collected, 9 mature, 3 fertilised. chemical with our first, 2 boys from our two frozen Frosties. The number drop feels awful and you feel hope goes out the window, I never imagined we would get one bfp let alone two more after the first. I hope from this you can see that it can happen. People can have so many more and it not work. So really is it even a numbers game, I reckon it’s just pure luck xx

hey, I had 16 eggs collected. Only 5 were mature. 4 fertilized and only 3 made it to the blastocyst stage. The grades 4aa and 3aa. I was shocked that there were just a few in the end. But I’m currently 25 weeks after 1st KET. 2 other embryos are still frozen.

No worries about the amount if the grade of the blastocysts is good. One is enough to get pregnant and have a baby ❤️ stay positive and trust your “snowflakes” 🐣

Such lovely stories of hope, thank you everyone. Our other four all developed into blastocysts by day 6, however, informed they were not good enough to freeze so we have the two. I'm very grateful for them and hopefully they will bring us our much longer for little one. Thank you again xxx
