Thyroid level

Hi ladies,

I am currently on 75mcg of Levothyroxine. I am hopefully having my embryo transfer on Wednesday. 3 weeks ago I had my bloods checked with my clinic and my thyroid level was 1.9 and the clinic said I was ok to go ahead with treatment. My worry is that I had bloods taken after my last embryo failed to implant in July and my thyroid level was 9. My bloods hadn’t been checked by the clinic prior to transfer. I had my bloods taken again with my GP on Friday and the results today show that my TSH level is 3.9 and T4 level 20.2. I have spoken to the clinic and the nurse said I shouldn’t be going between the clinic and my GP as they only check thyroid levels every six weeks. I said to the nurse that I wasn’t taking any chances after having a thyroid level of 9. The consultant also said he doesn’t think the levels will affect implantation. I’ve had to take things in my own hands and have my GP monitoring my bloods too. My clinic just see the ££ signs. So is TSH level of 3.9 and T4 20.2 ok for embryo transfer? Advice needed ladies xx

I wrote a similar post a while back and was told that an ideal thyroid level in pregnancy is under 2.5

I will be honest with with you, I think your TSH level is a bit on a higher end but I cannot comment on T4 as I am not monitoring it. NHS and my private clinic in Spain told me that TSH must be between 1-2. I am also taking thyroxine 25mg. My TSH without medications is around 2.5. I also tested 3 weeks ago and came back 2.4 because I didn’t take my medications daily (been a bit lazy). My clinic advised me to increase my dose to 50mg just before my transfer (that was today) I will have to check again in 2 weeks time what the levels are.

Thanks Ranchu..it seems high to me too. I don’t understand why my clinic are not bothered about this..my consultant said I could increase the dose to 100mcg but of course I’ll have to speak to my GP first xx

I have a letter from CRM NHS to my GP where is says what my levels should be. If you can get one then your GP will not have that many questions of why, when and how! 😄 You can definitely increase your dose to 100mg. Few months ago my GP increased my dose to 100mg in error and dispensary didn't want to release my 25mg medications 😁. I had to call me GP to ask them to change it back because my blood test at that time was 0.2 so it was going on the other end as being too low 😂

I really think that TSH is playing an important role in IVF so try to push as much as you can, try to exaggerate a bit if you see that is not working 😉 at the end of the day is for your well-being.

Good luck 🤞

Hiya, I think that is on the high side too. You might be ok but I think if you want the very best shot then it would be good to increase the dose to 100mcg and monitor. You also need to increase by 25mcg as soon as you become pregnant as the baby needs your thyroid hormones too. I think I mentioned it before but my endo said ideally tsh should be under 1 if ttc so 2.5 is the minimum you want to shoot for.

Hi Arlie..I think you’re right about increasing the dose. I’m worried about it because I’ve got embryo transfer on Wednesday and it might take a while for the new dose to be effective. I’ve posted in Thyroid UK too xx

It’s a tricky one. It can be as little one or two weeks to feel the difference so could be quicker biochemically? But I don’t know for sure. If it would be easy for you to postpone for a month that might be best? But don’t know how easy that is for you. Rooting for you though! Xx

I was thinking about postponing. I’ll ring the clinic tomorrow..I’m assuming my eggs would be frozen in that case. Thanks for your advice xx

Hi natty due to covid i wasnt tested by my gp before my fet. Once i had a bfp i went to a private endo and tested ths 5. He did increase my dose to 100mg. I dont want to worry you but i did miscarry. My consultant said it wasnt due to the thyroid but who knows. I stayed at the 100 and my ths stays lower than 1 for last few months.

What is the range of your T4?

If you can push for increase of levo i would do that. Perhaps tell them you have plenty symptoms if any.

Again nothing to worry abt because women do get pregnant with high ths but after my heart break i would after this aim for ths between 0-1. Xxxx

My T4 level is 20.2 and should be between 10-24 so no further action from the GP however if I’m ttc we know it needs to be lower than that. I posted in thyroid UK and the person who replied said I shouldn’t have taken my dose of levo the morning before the blood test as the results can show a false high. I only took the tablet an hour before the blood test. I’m booked in with my GP to have my progesterone levels checked in the morning so I might see if I can have my thyroid level checked again, without taking the tablet first thing. I think it would put my mind at rest xx

yes def ask for re testing. that forum is a life saver although there is no much ttc related posts but I learned a lot. with that range you still have some space in your t4 so you could increase your levo. you will be absolutely fine and if you know roughly your transfer date and otd you can book that blood test in as well. easier said than done as gp's not always on board but we can ask! :) all the very best xx
