Dear all,I hope you are keeping safe and happy.I need your help please.i have hypothyroidism, wich I take medication for it.How soon after a confirm pregnancy should I check my levels please? I had them checked a week ago and I have now positive hpt tests and I'm planning to have a beta on Thursday. Should I also check my tsh or should I wait for hsg to rise more before I do it?Many thanks.

Hi, congrats on the pregnancy. You will get your bloods done with the midwife around 8 or 9 weeks. They will usually increase your dose after these results. Ideally TSH should be under 2.5 in pregnancy and you should get your bloods checked at least once in each trimester. You should also be under consultant care and they will also monitor your bloods etc. Our trust do growth scans for thyroid issues at 32 and 36 weeks. Hope this helps xx

Thank you for your reply. I imagined they would monitor my levels but I wonder if tgeh leave it too late or is it a good idea I have a private blood test any time soon.I have read that hsg is effecting thyroid levels,so I want to be causes. What do you think?

I suppose it all depends on when the midwife sees you. How far are you now? Your last tsh is well within range so I dont think any gp, midwife or consultant would advise an I vrease in dose just yet. I was only on 25mcg and they doubled to 50mcg once bloods came back at 9 weeks, I contacted my GP. However, dont let the receptionist fob u off by saying its within normal range, because it will be, but tell them it needs to be under 2.5 and that you want a GP to action it. Mine were pretty good at doing that xx

Hey, I got told to up my thyroxine by 25 when I got a positive test. I would double check with your clinic/GP/midwife etc but that was certainly the advice given to me. Congrats on your BFP!xx

My gp was never helpful treating my hypothyroidism and had to battle before I got the dose I needed. I really don't know what to do,hence I asked for advise here.thank you for the time you took to reply😊

Hi, what was your level last week? If it was very low then maybe wait a bit longer, but if it was borderline I would check again soon. As already said, once pregnant you will need to increase your dose. You are allowed to see any GP or any GP office within the radius of your address, so don't be afraid to try another GP and see if they are more helpful xx

Thanks for getting back to me.my level was 1.25.i was thinking to do a test before I increase my dose and also need to have support if I want to stay pregnant. I haven't thought of changing a gp for the fact that they seek advise from the specialists.I had a partial thyroidectomy back in January and the specialist didn't suggest any medication and when I mentioned to my gp that after removing cancern my tsh needs to be suppressed, the consultant's answer to my gp was that it only needs to be in range. So I believe it will be the same with all the gps.I will have my beta on Thursday, so thinking to contact my gp and ask what's next and go from there. Thanks again 😊

Congratulations!

I had monthly blood tests and was told to increase my thyroxine upon positive Beta /HPT by by consultant endocrinologist.

As your doctor what they recommend.

Good luck!
