* warning sensitive* Looking for reassurance (and hope) bleeding at 11 weeks

I’m 11 weeks and 3 days, currently sitting in A&E waiting to be seen because I had a bleed earlier and some clotting. Since then (3 hours ago) the bleeding has gotten lighter and I’ve not needed to change my pad. When I wipe there’s hardly any blood.

Been waiting at A&E for 2.5 hours so far, going crazy just thinking the worst so thought I’d jump on here.

Has anyone experienced this before? I’ve had 3 missed miscarriages before but nothing like this. This is the furthest I’ve gotten. I’m still on IVF medication.

My 12 week scan is next week, but I went for a private scan last Saturday (at 11 weeks exactly) and all was fine. There was a strong heartbeat and lots of movement.

I have very little hope that everything is ok, but a small part of me wants to hold onto faith. I now regret telling my family on Mother’s Day.

Any advice/experiences would be appreciated- good or bad.

Thank you!

I had some bleeding at around 7 weeks. I was sure it was all over and remember so clearly sitting in a&e expecting the worst. But that little embryo is now playing with water in the sink! I think bleeding in early pregnancy is common enough and in my case they didn't find a reason. It could have been from the progesterone pessaries irritating the cervix. Thinking of you and hoping you get seen soon 🙏

Thank you. I am hoping for the best and keep thinking it’s the medication somehow messing with me.

Hello lovely,

It sounds like it could be a subchorionic haematoma - I had one at 17 weeks and it was super scary. It bled (gradually) for about 3 weeks before it disappeared but it had no effect on the baby.

Everything crossed its one of these - weirdly more common in IVF.

So sorry you're experiencing this.

I've had 11 miscarriages and nothing like you describe. As in, once my bleeding starts in full force, not spotting, it doesn't stop again.

I had a bit of stop/start bleeding with an ectopic but, after a scan, that isn't a concern/possibility anymore.

Lots of people on here, and some friends, have had haematoma, which is more like you describe. They are more common in ivf pregnancies.

So, in a weird way, fingers crossed that that is what it is (only in the ivf world do you wish for some benign internal bleeding ...).

Does your hospital have an EPU? You may be seen quicker there if it does. Your clinic may also offer a scan.

Fingers crossed for you. I know how scary it is.xx

Hi lovely,

I’m very sorry for what you’re going through and I perfectly understand you as I experienced the same just few days ago. Until this morning I was ready for the worse, then at the scan appointment it showed the sac & embryo are still there. No heartbeat yet as it’s a bit early for me but holding strong until next week scan with hopefully good news🤞🏼 I will pray for you too, wishing all goes well.

Hey Cma83, I've been bleeding on and off for most of my pregnancy so far (I'm 8w today) due to an hematoma in my uterus which I heard is very common in IVF pregnancies. I've heard from some other women that it can develop later during pregnancy, they went on having healthy babies. This is just to say bleeding can mean anything. Get it checked so you know where is coming from and can have a better idea what you're dealing with.

Thank you all so much. A&E contacted the EPU and they don’t have any slots for a scan until Thursday 😔

Apparently I’m not bleeding enough to warrant an urgent scan.

I’ve been frantically calling private scan places, all of which are now closed and unable to take bookings.

Looks like it will be a long night ahead, hoping the bleeding subsides and I’ll contact some private clinic’s tomorrow.

Your comments have certainly provided me with some hope.

Thank you xx

The bleeding you describe looks like an hematoma, not a miscarriage. I had both. With a miscarriage, it starts with traces for like 30 minutes / 1 hour and once the bleeding starts, it is full bleeding with cloth. When it happens, it is clearly that there is no doubt. I never stops, it just increases until everything is expulsed. What you describe is not that at all. Xxx

Thank you! I didn’t get any bleeding last night, it seems to have stopped. But I feel like I’ve lost all pregnancy symptoms. My breasts are not sore anymore, I don’t have nausea. My bloated tummy has gone down massively. Just wondering if with Hematoma you still get pregnancy symptoms?

Maybe I’m overthinking it too much.

I managed to get an appointment for later this afternoon at another EPU for a different hospital thankfully. 🤞

You still do have symptoms with an hematoma, it is not linked at all, but 12 weeks is generally the exact moment when the Beta HCG starts decreasing, and thus, when the symptoms start to dampen :-) Fortunately :-) Do not make any assumptions, pregnancy symptoms really vary from a pregnancy to the other, from a time inthe same pregnancy to the other, and most of them are very linked to the psychological state of the mom. I think you are overthiking too much. Super for the other appointment, keep us posted! Xx

It happened to me as well last night… currently 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant as of yesterday. I started having a bit of pain like pulling sensation on my lower right side from around 8 pm until 11 pm and then it stopped and after 15 minutes I was talking to my husband and I laughed and that moment I felt like a gush of discharge and I quickly went to check and my panties were soaked in blood. I put a heavy pad and rushed to the a&e who were very unhelpful and didn’t do anything except saying they will give me a call today to schedule me in for an ultrasound. The pad didn’t soak and around 2:30am when I got back home the bleeding was lighter in the sense that I could see brown discharge when wiping after going to the bathroom. The same this morning however my only pregnancy symptoms were sore boobs and bloating and I’ve lost them both. I managed to find a private scan and I will go tonight and I am so worried and upset and sad and I feel like crying non stop. Please let me know how your appointment goes today

Sending you love a strength xxx

So sorry you are also going through this. It’s a horrible feeling.

I had sharp abdominal pain at 8:30am yesterday (but thought it was constipation as I’ve had it bad recently) . Then at 12pm I sneezed and had a gush of discharge, when I checked that’s when I had blood in my pants and when I wiped I had more with clots. That’s when we rushed to A&E.

I’m so surprised A&E doesn’t take this more seriously, all it requires is a quick scan. Glad you’ve managed to get an appointment at a private clinic.

I’m grateful for all the comments on this post giving me some level of hope to cling onto.

I’ll keep you posted after my appointment. Hoping all goes well at yours. Sending you lots of strength too Xxx

I’ve had my scan and thankfully everything is ok. There was a heartbeat💛

The sonographer could not find any reason for the bleed. I do not have hematoma. She said there is no reason to be concerned, but if it happens again then to go back to EPU (via a GP referral if it’s not heavy bleeding, but A&E if it is heavy bleeding).

Thank you all so much for your reassurance, it really did help me get through this. Fingers crossed all continues to be well going forward.

I’m sorry for if you’ve been through this as it’s such a horrendous feeling.

Sending you all lots of virtual hugs.

Xx

Ah that's great news! There is a lot of increased bloodflow when pregnant so maybe you just knocked or irritated something.

So pleased all is well xxx
