Hi there, I booked in our first cycle of ivf... Very nervous, we were asked if we want to add on an endometrial scratch, what are peoples experience of this?

Hi Lavendartea,
Exciting you have your first cycle booked!
I have been told by two clinics that they don’t recommend scratches anymore because they don’t see any benefit in them.
It’s a personal decision but as it’s your first cycle, I wouldn’t rush to add on too many ‘extras’!
Good luck xxx
I had one. First cycle. Only cycle. It was successful but whether that was the reason, we wont ever know. I just knew I had to do everything I could to get it to work.
It was quite uncomfortable but over in a minute xx
Doc did tell me that theres no evidence to suggest it works. But told me to do some research and decide xx
I had the same experience as Florencenightingale - had a scratch on my first cycle and got BFP (sadly miscarried). On my 2nd transfer I didn’t have one and it didn’t take.
Can’t be sure how much the scratch helped as other things changed between rounds (didn’t have acupuncture on 2nd transfer either)xx
I was told there wasn't really a whole lot of proof of whether it helped or not. My doc offered it to me but i declined as it was more money out of my pocket and there was no documentation proving it actually helped. I'm now 31 weeks with twins. It's really your own decision though, I have read some stories where they swear it helped.
Hi , my first round of ivf went with nhs wouldn’t offer the scratch so didn’t have it ended up ivf didn’t work, my second time went private had the scratch and glue got successfully pregnant . If I was to do this again I would have the scratch again I also have another friend who believes she was successful in ivf on 3rd try because of the scratch - good luck x
Hi Lavendartea, funnily enough I have also been doing my research on it and glue, I'll be coming up to my 6th transfer, sadly had a MMC and 2 chemical pregnancies, it's the first time my consultant has recommended it and it does say to maybe try if you've had a history of failures with good embryos so I think this one I'm going to throw everything at it. I wish you the very best of luck xx
Hi. I didn’t have a scratch with my first transfer, which failed. Had one with my second & now 12 weeks pregnant.
I’ll never know if it made a difference but I just wanted to know in myself that I’d done everything possible. IVF is so expensive anyway, the extra cost of the scratch seemed to be a small price to pay for the peace of mind it gave me.
It’s such a personal choice though. Good luck, whatever you decide 🤞🏼 Xx
I had it for my fresh and frozen cycle, got positive pregnancy tests from both, but both ended in a miscarriage.
The consultant recommended it again for my next fresh cycle as I have both endometriosis and adenomyosis, but if I didn’t have those condition he said he wouldn’t be recommending it. Xx
