Can I have a natural FET?

Starsandsunbeams profile image

Hi, we are currently considering next steps after 2 chemical pregnancies and 1 failed fresh transfer this year. I'm considering 2019 to be a completely rubbish year for us! I have 3 frosties (low grade unfortunately) and am wondering about when to transfer. I've only had medicated cycles before, could I consider a natural FET do you know? What would qualify me for one?

Thanks all. * Sending love at this tough time of year*

Hi I have just had a natural fet, in order to be able to have one you need to be able to ovulate on your own, so if you don’t have an issue with that then you should be fine. I had to ring on my 1st day of cycle and then test for ovulation around day 10, once you get the smiley face you ring the clinic and then book you in for a transfer 5-6 later. Some clinics may do it slightly different but was very straight forward and less stressful. X

Thank you for your reply. I haven't done OPKs for a while, but my consultant says I'm most likely to be ovulating as I have fairly regular periods- a 25 day cycle give or take a day or two. I think I'd like to explore this more so will book in a chat with them. Thank you x

Hiya.. I had a natural FET the end of November. They usually say you have to have a regular cycle and know you ovulate each month to do it naturally. It was pretty straight forward I rang on day 1 then began ovulation testing on day 10 and as soon as I got the solid smiley rang the clinic and was booked in 5 days later! Good luck with everything 🤞🏻 xx

Thank you, it does sound straight forward. Did your clinic offer it as an option or did you ask? How did you get on and was it your first FET if you don't mind me asking? X

Yes the offered both natural and medical but I chose natural. We got our very first ever BFP on 10th Dec we have our scan on 31st Dec. I’m so excited and nervous at the same time! Yes this was our first ever cycle of ivf so we’ve been lucky 🤞🏻🤞🏻 xx

Hey, I hope I can give some hope to you about a natural FET. I had 4 cycles all medicated 2 fresh ending in MMC and 2 FETs both unsuccessful. Last year I did a natural FET but still took progesterone and now have an 8 month old baby. If you ovulate then I would definitely suggest giving it a try, I had no faith it would work but I do believe not having the stress of injections etc made a difference. Lots of luck and I hope 2020 is your year x

Wow, that is a story full of hope. I'm definitely going to discuss this with them. Did you need to ask your clinic about it or did they suggest it? Congratulations on your baby 😘 xx

Thank you. My clinic suggested it and I’ll be honest I was really against it but my consultant kept going on about it and I’d kind of given up hope so thought what did I when to loose x

It is possible to have a natural/ mild FET even if you don’t ovulate regularly. My daughter had 5 unsuccessful, highly medicated rounds, including two FET with PGS tested embryos.

Her consultant then suggested a medically supported mild FET

MENTS

She had success on the first try and is currently six months pregnant.

The mild/ natural transfer does require time input by going to the clinic regularly for scans to monitor the development of the eggs. This is in order to determine the correct time window for the transfer but is much easier on the body in terms of injections and drugs.

Wishing you all the best x

Hi, I had a natural FET and would definitely recommend it if it’s an option. I have a predictable 27 day cycle and a blood test at around Day 10 confirmed I was ovulating and so I was booked in for transfer 5 days later. I didn’t use an OPK, but had my appointment with my consultant not coincided (coincidentally) with my ovulation date and a blood test not been taken at that appointment which confirmed I was ovulating, I would have been asked to use one. I wasn’t given any medication after the transfer. I’m now nearly 23 weeks pregnant. Good luck...x

Hello lovely! Hope you guys have managed to have a restful Christmas and enjoy yourselves. I've been thinking of you ❤️

Just wanted to let you know that we've been considering the same. We had a follow up meeting with our consultant and have now decided on a natural FET with our one frozen embryo. I have thankfully always had pretty regular periods and ovulate regularly so, based on this, she gave us both options. We feel that a natural FET is the way to go for us at this stage.

We've decided to have an endometrial scratch this month and then go ahead with the FET next month 🤞🏻

It's a very strange feeling thinking that I won't be taking any drugs though!!

I really hope you get some questions answered when you speak with your clinic and all the very best of luck to you 😘 huge hugs and love being sent your way xx

Hi there. I had a medicated transfer in October which was cancelled as my lining wasn’t thick enough. I then had a mock cycle in November which may be something worth considering. Basically it’s just a test cycle where you are scanned without taking any drugs, to see if your body can prepare by itself. Then you can evaluate your options going forwards. My body responded very well to not taking any drugs but to cut a long story short we are having one more medicated cycle in Jan (changing the drug protocol from last time) and then if that doesn’t work we’ll do a natural cycle in March. Good luck x

Hi

My clinic has suggested a natural cycle this time for us as have said they have been having lots of positive results from couples with unexplained infertility. Have been given the same instructions as everyone else and advised to take progesterone still. However our clinic doesn’t carry out over weekends and bank holidays so last 2 have had to be postponed, which I didn’t realise until happened which was a bit upsetting.

Wishing you lots of luck and great to hear all the positive results from natural cycles 🤞🤞

Hi

I was in a similar predicament. My clinic are really pro natural FET as long as you have regular cycles. Despite me having no faith in my body being able to do its job for a successful natural FET, I can confirm I was proved wrong and I am now 15 weeks pregnant. It was really straight forward, I was scanned on day 1 of my cycle and then came back from day 11 to have daily scans and blood tests to detect when I was going to ovulate. I then had the transfer 5 days after ovulation. I took no medications and it was so much less stressful. It felt like I was working with my own cycle. The only thing I chose I take after abit of reading was 75mg aspirin which my clinic was happy with. Wishing you lots of luck and here’s to a happier 2020💫 xx

I just had a natural FET, chose it after our medicated cycle got cancelled as I ovulated naturally and we missed the tight timing. Got out BFP, early days yet and am taking progesterone suppositories which I asked to take to ensure lining stayed good! Good luck with your decisions with your clinic, mine were recommending another medicated one as they can control your cycle then, but I said I wanted a natural.

I have been to two clinics which have not given me the choice in a natural FET...

I’ve been in my body for a long time now, and know what it wants! Which is a natural FET...

You can do a natural even if you don’t regularly ovulate as they can give you a trigger injection as a minimal intervention...

I will do natural always... and will not even consider progesterone as the injections nearly killed me last time after being bullied into taking them even when my bloods indicated I didn’t need it..

Fight for your right to go natural “if you feel it’s best for you and your body “... only you will know

Best of luck xxx
