This is my first cycle, so i have no idea what to expect for egg collection. I'm feeling incredibly nervous! I've been feeling awful the last few days on menopur and for me personally, this whole IVF process has been a lot more difficult than i had comprehended. I really cannot see myself going through this again if something goes wrong now. Any advice? On what to expect, and the pain/discomfort that comes along with it. Also, how long did your recovery take?

Hi! I’m in the same boat - egg collection scheduled for Wednesday and I’ve been stimming for 10 days now so pretty anxious to move on to the next stage. This is also my first cycle, I’ve heard that there can be some discomfort and spotting after egg collection but we shall see! Good luck for Monday
It's nerve wracking isn't it?! Wishing you all the best for Wednesday. Do let me know how you get on. It's the uncertainty that's keeping me on edge. But hopefully we'll fly through it and it'll be worth it x
Wishing you lots of luck I am scheduled for egg collection on Wednesday. However this is round 5 for me 😩. Hope everything goes well xx
Thanks hun, i hope number 5 is the one that works for you. You must've been through a right ordeal, really hope this is the cycle that works and you get your BFP - you definitely deserve it, especially after all this struggle. Good luck xxx
Without wanting to scare you - I found the week after egg collection the toughest part. I say this because everything I read said it was straight forward and I wish I’d known! Two things were difficult - 1) recovery was tougher physically (I had OHSS and had a week off work and was in a lot of discomfort) and 2) the waiting for results as eggs fertilised etc
Be really kind to yourself, drink lots of water and try to have some distracting things to do. Once you get through this week it gets much easier and you’ll realise your stronger than you know x
So many people have said this, and i am feeling petrified! But i know this is something i have to go through. I just hope i'm completely knocked out and don't wake up until its done! I'll defo be spending a few days on the sofa watching netflix. Will be taking it super easy x
I started my first round of ivf 11/07/19 (my partners birthday) and found out we are expecting on the 8th August (my birthday) I was super scared for egg collection, we had 24 eggs which was amazing but due to so many being collected meant I was seriously bloated. I was in quite a bit of pain when I first came round. My advice is relax as much as you can, drink 3ltrs of water a day! Take a heat pad with you to pop on under your cloths before you go home lastly lots of sofa rest with good films and chocolate good luck on your journey xx
So glad it worked for you. Congratulations, i hope it all goes well for you! Thanks for the advice, will defo be relaxing and binge watch stuff on netflix lol xx
Good luck! Personally I found EC the easiest part-sedation was amazing. Little discomfort after but to be honest I was in more pain and discomfort after the hycosy a few months earlier. With EC I took a few painkillers that eve I think it was and then was fine. The worst bit was waiting for the call to find out how many fertilise and grow each day. Know easier said than done but try not to worry -everyone experiences it differently. Good luck and hope you get some lovely eggs xx
It wasn’t as bad as I expected. I did feel the needle and it was a bit sore but nothing crazy. Afterwards I was very emotional from the meds but went home and slept and felt better. Was very drowsy the whole evening and had some period-like cramping but all completely manageable and didn’t need any painkillers. Good luck. 😘
I found it ok too. It actually felt a weight off afterwards. In fact when we left the hospital I was starving and insisted my husband take me into town for waffles. I did stupidly go back to work the next day and felt run down all day. Take a day or too off after.
Hopefully you’re one of the many who find it easier. 🤞
Wishing you lots of luck for your EC, personally I found it to be the worst bit, I was fine with the injections, but unfortunately for me the sedation didnt kick in so I felt it all and cried through it. Everyone is so different, my best friend felt like she could have gone back to work the next day ! So please dont worry about people's responses as everyone finds it different.
I dont think I prepared myself enough for the week following EC, I became extremely bloated and ended up going to hospital with ohss and a follicle had burst in my tummy 😩.
I would definitely recommend drinking lots and gentle walking and lots of resting. Waiting for the calls each was very stressful and annoyingly you want to keep busy but your body needs to rest, so you mat feel it's the longest week of your life!
Wishing you all the best with your journey, you'll realise you are stronger than you think when you come out the other side, good luck xx
I had mine yesterday and also felt like it hurt much more than I expected. I don’t believe the calming or pain drugs worked as they had intended. I was crying quite a lot, so eventually they gave me nitrous to breathe in which helped a bit. I also have a ton of sexual trauma and medical anxiety that I imagine contributed to the pain. All that said, the hard part was maybe 5 minutes and although I am bloated now, it feels totally manageable with just Tylenol. Best of luck with yours!
Oh no, that sounds awful! Bless you, must've been such an ordeal. I hope you're doing fine now though. I am dreading tomorrow! Ah! I just hope i sleep through it all lol x
I have to be honest with my reply here.......I felt violated on egg collection. The numbing needle was massive and hurt like hell and didn’t seem to work as I felt a lot of discomfort and when they say relax it’s impossible due to the pressure you’re feeling from them sucking eggs from you. The gas and air were crap as well. When they finally finished I curled up in a ball with my l knees to my chest and cried. After the pain in my back (I have a dodgy nerve) hammered so they gave me codeine to take edge off. The cramp after we’re like period pains (extreme)... I have a high pain threshold at that!! Labour was a piece of cake compared to egg collection. It’s pain I won’t forget whereas labour I’ve forgotten that already in a way.
That sounds terrible. Did they not sedate you? I'll be getting sedated, but i know it doesn't work as well on some people, they remain awake. But what you've described sounds like complete torture! And you're right, the end result is definitely worth it, provided you end up with good blastocysts and a positive. So glad your experience didn't amount to nothing. Hopefully mine will amount to something too. Thanks so much for your reply xx
