Doxycycline and sunburn

Hi. I have only been on doxycycline for 2 days and feeling ok. I was out in the sun for a few hours with sunblock. When I got back In the car I then got a sudden onset of pins and needles and icy stabbing sensations all over my hands and arms which are now turning red with sunburn. Is this just photosensitivity or something more serious? I do suffer with drug sensitivity but never normally to antibiotics. It’s now 3 hours after this onset and it’s calmed down a bit but I’m turning quite red from sunburn, anyone else suffered this! Thanks in advance.

Doxycycline can make u more sensitive to the sun so it is probably a reaction to that xx

Antibiotics did this to me years ago and I have never ever reacted to the sun. They ruined my gut health & I developed all sorts of problems. Even now 7 years on I still sometimes get sensitivity to the sun years after coming off them. I also developed light sensitivity while on them too. The tetracycline group is horrid! I will never go near an antibiotic again.

Yes I too had my health ruined by doxycycline. Had photo sensitivity and ended up with histamine intolerance food intolerances IBS and fatigue 5 years on.

I’d recommend taking a fairly hefty dose of pro biotics (at a separate time from the anti biotic ) and eat lots of good fermented foods yogurt sauerkraut ect. Not sure it will help with the photo sensitivity but may help with gut health.

Same here!!! I have histamine intolerance too now! So probiotics and anything fermented is out of the question for anyone with histamine issues. Although I have endo so histamine intolerance and Candida are part of having endo unfortunately, the antibiotics definitely brought them on though.

Oh gosh I’m sorry to hear. I’m coeliac with nut allergies so the histamine intolerance has been really hard to manage too. I’ve found certain probiotics are ok for me like vsl 3 and optibac everyday and Klaire labs but many made my histamine symptoms worse. Coconut oil is good for Candida. It’s awful to go through though I sympathise greatly

I don’t get thrush or anything like that type of Candida, a lot of people don’t realise they have Candida but that’s what makes the histamine intolerance ten times worse so most with HI will have Candida. In the gut. I cleared mine with no sugar, wheat, dairy or processed foods. I don’t eat anything reheated , frozen or fermented and that keeps it all at bay. It sucks but forced you to be healthy I guess.

Its the doxycycline. It makes your skin very sensitive to sunlight.

Doxycycline very commonly causes a sun photosensitivity rash.
