I recently had a BFP with strong hcg numbers. I am 5+3 today and felt a funny feeling, like a bit of stomach ache but as if I’ve eaten something funny, not pain as such. I went to the toilet to find red blood 😞
Sorry for TMI but it was a quite a bit when I wiped and now a few drops on my pad. I have called the clinic (too busy to answer, of course) and waiting for a call back. But their own “when to call the clinic” fact sheet says if it’s flowing red blood to call immediately or go to an emergency department if after hours - so I’m going to assume it’s all over. Absolutely devastated.
A tiny part of me has a little hope - has anyone had this, or know of anyone who has had this and it’s been ok? 😢

update - they have asked me to do a pregnancy blood test first thing in the morning. Said it could be a subchorionic hematoma but impossible to tell until they see what my hcg is doing.
Still looking to hear any positive stories if anyone has one 😢
This happened to me! If you click my username you can read my posts about it and it turns out lots of people have experienced this too! I know how it is… you see red blood and assume it’s over but I even had clots and it turned out okay. He’s now 3 😊 I’m sure you will find lots of other positive experiences like mine!
I know nothing will reassure you until you get to an early scan. Ask your clinic if they can up your progesterone. They added lubion injections for me.
Bless you, it’s a stressful time. Definitely stay hopeful though ❤️
Thank you so much for your reply, I just read through your posts and wow what a roller coaster but so happy to see your lovely baby boy arrived safe and well.
Your story really does make me feel a lot better - crazy that our bleeding started at the exact same time. It might not be what’s going on with me, but it gives me some hope. I am already on 2x weekly prog injections so thankfully I have my appointment for that tomorrow anyway, but will follow up on my levels too just to cover everything. Xx
Yes I only realised that when I looked back! 5 weeks 3 days exactly. I think 5 weeks is quite a common time for bleeding and is more likely in ivf pregnancies xx
I was just going to comment to say this COULD be a Hematoma, my partner had one and it gushed red blood at 12 weeks pregnant, we assumed the worse but baby was absolutely fine.
SCH are really common in IVF pregnancies and are essentially an implantation 'bruise' and can be seen on ultrasound.
Thank you, that is reassuring to hear! It was definitely like a gush, as opposed to a slow build up like a period. Glad to hear things turned out well for you, hopefully it is the same for me ☺️
This happened to me at 4 and 6 weeks, I had bright red blobs of bloods and spotting which gradually stopped after about 6 hours on both occasions. Scan at 7 weeks was fine and there were little black spots on the scan in the uterine lining which the nurse said were little haematomas where the embryo had buried in. She said these were the cause of the bleeds and I might have more and not to panic. She also said they were really common and often the body resorts them so you never see the blood. The first time it happened I asked the GP for a HCG and the local EPAU unit did it for me 48 hours apart which I was very grateful for as my clinic were not helpful x
Oh wow, so you had a few! Thanks for your reply. I’m glad it worked out for you. My clinic is a bit meh too - they did do bloods but only once?? I just have to wait out until my scan Wednesday next week, fingers crossed it’s alright xx
Hi I also had a bleed at 6w +1. It felt like a big gush of blood and there were clots too. I thought it was all over but the clinic told me it could be a sub chorionic haematoma which are more common with IVF pregnancies. I went in for a scan at 6w+5 and they could see a small SCH which they thought was the cause of bleeding. To my shock and relief baby was OK and had a heartbeat and measurements were fine. The SCH was gone by my next scan 8w+6.
Don't think you are out until its confirmed. Wishing you all the best xx
Thank you for your reply and it’s so good to hear everything was okay with you and baby. My bleeding seemed to stop over night and now is just a bit of left over brown blood - although I did pass it what I assume to be a clot a few hours ago ☹️ but reassuring to hear that it happened to you too. Thank you for you kind words xx
I have had this a couple of times with a positive outcome and a negative one, it’s terrifying but not much you can do but wait and see what the bloods are doing I’m afraid and possibly a scan of the HCG is high enough. I had an SCH with my wee boy so if it turns out to be that if you read my posts from September 2020 I had lots of really useful replies from people on here too at that time. Got my fingers and toes crossed that everything is okay for you xx
Thank you for your reply, I will have a read up of your old posts! Glad to hear it turned out well for your little boy ☺️ I have had a blood test and my hcg was 12500 at 4+3 which was where it was meant to be, which was a massive relief… but they didn’t want to check that it continued to double?? Ah well, I will trust their process and try remain calm for my scan next week. Thank you xx
With my little boy they only did the one blood test as it was at 19000 (about 5 weeks) and said after that high it would just be scans that they would use, they only did repeat ones for me when it was too low to confirm bad news so this is a positive step I would say 🤗💜🤞🏽xx
Really hope it's all OK lovely. Everything crossed. Some early pregnancy units let you self refer and you can sometimes get a scan the same day. They can also do bloods etc. xx
Thank you for your reply 🙏🏼 unfortunately we don’t have early pregnancy units in Australia 😕 the bleeding has thankfully stopped though, so I am nervously waiting for a scan next week xx
I had a large bleed at a similar time and it turned out to be a large subchorionic haematoma. Apparently quite common in IVF pregnancies and even more so if you are taking baby aspirin. I was told to stop it immediately and take it easy, working from home if possible. It had resolved itself by the 12-week scan. All fingers crossed for you!
I had this at exactly the same time! I then continued to bleed on and off until week 8! It was so stressful because I had had a miscarriage earlier that year, but the scans kept showing a heartbeat- no one could explain where the blood was coming from until about week 7 when they decided it was the way the placenta was attaching. It also happened to a friend of mine, who also went on to have a successful pregnancy. Can you get a scan? We first saw a heartbeat at 5+6. Hope you’re doing ok- it’s a stressful time! X
Oh gosh you poor thing, that must have been an awful wait to get the “all clear”. I already had my viability scan booked in with the specialist on Wednesday next week when I will be 6+5, I was really hoping she would ask me to come in earlier but she is happy with where my hcg levels are at. I’m trying to feel reassured by that but the wait is just sooo long. X
Well that's great news about your hcg levels! My clinic kept saying try not to worry too much if theres no pain with the bleeding - impossible not to worry I know! wishing you loads of luck for the scan 🤞🤞xx
Thanks for checking in Doodlebug, and sorry for going MIA on the chat thread, I keep losing it! My update is my bleeding stopped after a few hours, but I did pass some weird clot thing the next day (looking like lining, but it came out all in one go - sorry TMI). I did an hcg blood test the next day and it was 12500 which they were happy with but said nothing can be confirmed til I have a scan. So Wednesday next week I should know 😬 x
when I bled and called my de in panic, he said that if it were a miscarriage, he would have heard my scream directly without the need for the phone. He was making a joke to say that miscarriages are super painful and since I was able to talk normally, I should be fine. My bleeding was light - make sure you record the color and the volume of yours. Stopped after a day or so and echo showed it was the placenta that was slightly dislodged. It happened again like 2 months later and nothing since. Hope yours is as easy!
