One follicle, stage 4 endometriosis and egg collection decision

So I'm feeling really nervous. I 've started my injections over a week ago and had my scan today and was told they can only see one follicle. My amh is really low so not too surprised but was really hoping there would be more as a week and a half ago they saw three follicles. The debate was should I have the egg collection or not? It's alot of money, not sure if there is an egg in the follicle and if it will be healthy. We've decided to gamble and go for it. It maybe our lucky egg! I have stage 4 endometriosis, one failed cycle, 4 laparoscopies, one tube gone, cysts in both ovaries, very complicated situation. I don't no how I will take the news if it's another fail. Some days I feel so alone. Next difficult plan/discussion would be donor eggs. Has anyone else having to go through a similar situation and had a good result?

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. What do you think about it? Do you personally want to pursue this option? It is a possibility, definitely. Donor eggs could be a decent option, too. Either way, best of luck! You can do this, honey. Hit me up, if you feel like talking!

Thank you CindyWeze, we have given it alot of thought and decided that we will go for egg collection, which is actually this afternoon. 🤞 it's a big gamble but if we don't try we won't know. This endometriosis is so complex but we still have to have hope. x

Hi, I recently went through similar. I didn’t respond well to the Menopur injections and had one leading follicle on my first scan. On my second we had 2 follicles, my clinic only go ahead with EC if 2 follicles or more. We went for it, only got 1 egg. Which although fertilised it was not good enough quality to transfer 😕 Wish now we cancelled before egg collection as this has cost us 4 grand. However we would’ve always been wondering what if had it contained that golden egg.

See what your next scan says and take it from there.

Are you on menopur? I had a poor response to it and have requested for my next cycle to go back to gonal f which gave me 8 eggs plus 1 live birth 😀 I was at a loss why they put me on Menopur, they say it is better for quality however I clearly did not respond well.

Good luck 🙏🏻

Hi Hope76, congratulations! I am now on menopur and like you have only one leading follicle. It's a big gamble going for this with just one follicle, not knowing if it even contains an egg but if we don't do it, as you say we will always be wondering what if it was our golden egg. Menopur is apparently meant to help get better quality eggs if amh is low. My egg collection is today. I can only hope and pray it's a good outcome at this stage. Did you have low amh? Mine is 0.26 so really low.

Hi thanks and I thank my lucky stars every day for my 3 year old we are just having a crazy journey trying for his sibling 😕.

My clinic never did an AMH test, they advised since my FSH levels are 5.6 then it wasn’t necessary.

When is your egg collection ?

Good luck 🤞🏼🙏🏻🍀

We all have our own ‘fertility difficulty bubbles’ on here - similar but with different things going on in each. I relate to your worry, the really challenging decision making and the difficulty of the uncertainty. I think it depends on your mind-set if you will think ‘I’ll always wonder what if’ then despite the cost it might be worth doing (for piece of mind at worst - at best, it might yield positive results) If you’re not in that mindset then don’t - it sounds like you’ve been through a lot physically and emotionally and it’s okay to say no when it’s enough. Sending my best wishes to you. X

Sorry to hear all this. You have defo been true a lot. Go with your gut. That’s what I had to do in a position few weeks ago. We only have funds for one more cycle. We did one last September and it was disaster. We did have 4 folicles (3 folicles two days before egg collection so was a risk, doctor also said high risk in getting to transfer) but had four the morning of last scan. We wanted to convert to iui but clinic only would if three or less folicles, and of course by last scan, I had four, so we cancelled. Prob seems mad but with only one last go left, Im really trying to find a clinic \ protocol that can hopefully give us more folicles for a better chance. X Could you think about iui or would that be possible for you? Just a thought. Wishing you the best of luck. X

Hi there

It’s awful to go through this. I know how you feel. I’ve had 12 natural cycle ivf (1-2 follicles each time) and it was nerve wracking each time just hoping for an egg. Out of 12 cycles I had 2 cycles with no egg at all which kind of ties in with what my clinic said that there’s a 20% chance of no egg. So it’s a hard decision and it also depends on oestrogen levels ect too.

I know how you feel and my heart goes out to you. I wishing you the best of luck.

It’s always good to have a back up plan in place just in case.

Take care x

Hi rivershark, Thank you for your message. So sorry to hear about your cycles. I was told we have a 5%-6% chance with one follicle. If this doesn't work our only other option I guess is donor eggs. We have decided to do egg collection with our one follicle. The egg collection is actually this afternoon. Wish me luck! Will you do anymore cycles?

Wish you the best of luck this afternoon. Lots of positive thoughts coming your way. I’ve frozen mine from all the cycles. Won’t do any more now but will use up the frozen ones. I know some clinics do a 3 ivf package for low reserve where you can freeze from the first 2 cycles then put all back on the third. Might be an option to consider before donor.

Thinking of you and wishing you best of luck xx

I hope things go well. Just stay positive and strong. Even if one follicle is retrieved and is of good quality things will go well. Just have faith in yourself. Dont think about the negatives. I know many people who have been able to conceive by just having one good quality embryo. Sending baby dust your way. Hoping for the best.
