only one follicle :(

hi all,

I’m currently undergoing follicle tracking on natural ovulation for PCOS. I’ve had 4 miscarriages due to low progesterone so need to go on the pessaries as soon as I get pregnant, as my problem is the embryo is implanting but soon miscarries as I can’t maintain my lining for some reason.

Anyway, I had my first follicle tracking scan yesterday and I’ve only got 1 follicle at 15.2mm. According to my cycle (day 17) I’m not due to ovulate until Sunday as I have a 35 day cycle so usually ovulate around day 20-21. My OPk test have just started to Darken today. My womb lining was good at 10.5mm

I know it only takes ‘one’ but I’m disappointed that I literally have one follicle this cycle, my right ovary was ‘silent ‘ apparently. I have a good AMH of 36.5pmol/l and I’m 32. The nurse said I’ve got a really healthy AMH which I’m pleased about.

She said that the 15.2mm follicle is small for this stage of my cycle which I don’t really agree with considering I’ve got another 5 days to go until ovulation. She seemed to be basing everything on a 28 day cycle and even suggested I have the bloods actually on day 21 when I wouldn’t of even ovulated yet or just about. She didn’t mention any other follicles but I could see smaller follicles next to the big one on the scan, however she only measures that one.

has anyone had any success with just one follicle and being on the smaller side ? Do they grow quick and catch up? I had a good feeling about this month but I’m not so sure now :( I’m also on Merformin and thought it would of done more , when I previously took metformin I was pregnant 3 weeks after starting.

I will have day 21 bloods on day 28 due to longer cycle to see if I ovulate but I’m not holding out hope. X

My cycles are all over the place now but I've been having natural modified IVF cycles (3 cycles package). On my first, day 5 scan the found a 17mm folicle, got trigger that night and egg collection 35h later. Thankfully it fertilised and we have a frozen embryo waiting. My second cycle wasn't so quick, had to take a couple of days of stims. Still we got an egg (had a second smaller fiolicle but that was empty. Sadly that 1 egg didn't fertise properly. I now have a cyst on the same side they took the egg so have to skip this cycle.

Your body will usually only produce 1 egg, the best it thinks you have. one thing from my very first IVF (different clinic) was sizing. I have 4 folicles when one got to 24mm they triggered. But apparently I had ovulated before they could collect anything. Size it not everything!!

Hi Amy. If you’re having a natural FET then you’re on track. In a couple of days this one will be near ovulation ready for the FET. Hopefully, the next embryo will be here to stay. Good luck. Diane

Hi,

I'm so sorry to hear about all your losses. That is incredibly difficult. I have pcos and have had two miscarriages and one failed FET so understand how hard it is.

When I had IUI there were times when the cycle was nearly cancelled because of follicles being small but after a few days they grew so even a few days, makes a difference. Good luck, I hope it's your turn soon. X

Thank you , sorry for your losses too!

I’m having near enough positive ovulation tests now so I’m hoping it’s grown enough from Wednesday to have mature egg xx

So if your not taking any fertility meds then having one big follice is normal as each natural cycle a few follicles will start to grow but only one will grow to maturity and release an egg, the others stop growing. If this wasn't the norm then multiple births would be far more common.
