Just started the ttc journey. I was scheduled for my egg retrieval for some time this week but my latest scan as of today shows that I only have one follicle which is not even developing well. The Gynae has recommended we cancel the IVF for now so as not to waste money.
Has anyone had this sort of issue where your follicles were few and had to halt the IVF process. Please, what did you do ?? I am just so down and dissappointed.
Thanks ladies.

Sorry to hear this, Tamilore. I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to come and give you love and say how disappointed I am for you. Hopefully someone on here has actual advice to give you. How much money is it (that you "waste") if you continue? Not sure I like that term! Really feeling for you. Hugs and love and teddy bears! xxxxxx
Thanks ttcemmie. I was scheduled to pay about £6,000. I guess he was just saying it might not be worth it going ahead with one follicle. Thanks for your care and love ! xxx
Ahhhh I see your point. If it's going to save you that sort of money and then you could put that towards potentially another cycle where you could get more follicles.... yes I understand. Wishing you the best. There MUST be some people who have been through this on here who will have some advice 😉 xxx
Mmm, I hate that they leave these decisions in your hands.
How many more were they expecting ? Are you on a very low dose?
If it was me I would pause and see what they can do to get more eggs dunno 🤷🏼♀️ once you go to egg collection the money is gone 🙄😱 only the medication money will be lost here.
Have they said what they would do the next time or anything ? If they could tell you this the decision would be easier .
I only had 4 follicles on first scan then 5 at the next one, we were advised to stop but we carried on to see what could be learnt . We only got one embryo which failed to implant . If I could go back I’d pull out and save the egg collection money . But anyway , hope you can decide soon so you can deal with whatever is coming .
Hi Tamilore. I’m really sorry about you having to cancel the treatment, but I think it’s safer this way. I’d go back and ask them about the dosage, In my personal experience 375 dose of Gonal is on the high side, especially for first stimulation.
Mmm didn’t expect you to say the high dose , I was on 225 of menopur when I got my 5. I’m starting 375 Gonal f in a couple of weeks .... mmmm I’ll be mindful now and hopefully sensible if faced with the decision again .
I’ve read lots of people using two stims at same time etc and various doses so hopefully they can get a better plan for the next time. It’s so expensive ! Wish there was a money tree!!!!
Aww you poor thing, I'm sorry it wasnt the news you wanted today, it's so devastating after the build up of it all. I havent ever had my cycle cancelled before egg collection but mine was cancelled before transfer. (This was on nhs so no £ involved)
I would be inclined to cancel to save the money, but I would definitely be asking them as to why only 1 follicle. To my knowledge that's quite a high dose of gonal f, did you do short protocol or long protocol?
If you did long protocol, were they happy at your down reg scan that your body was ready for stims?
Is this your first scan whilst being on the stims?
It really could be that that certain drug just wasnt doing what it's meant to and I am sure they will alter things for you and you will respond so much better next time.
Thanks alot !!! I did the short protocol ( I started stimulating last monday, which makes today my eight day). My first scan was 4 days ago and they couldn't see any follicles so it was upped from 300 to 375.
You so dont deserve this, it's so unfair! If they dont believe things can be turned around at this stage, they will do everything they can to change things for next time. Lots of hugs xxx
Im sorry to hear this, which type of cycle were you on? I only have 5 follicles, low amh and endo. Ive had 2 rounds of natural modified ivf. I responded well in both rounds, they concentrated on gently stimulating my follicles to get one, or two eggs. Its hard to advice not knowing your situation? X
First of all I am so sorry that they have cancelled your cycle. I was in the exact same situation as you are now. I am 41 with low Amh, I started a short cycle with bemfola in January and on my scan after 6 days of stims I only had one follicle growing. I was already on highest dose of bemfola. They recommended to cancel the cycle, mainly to safe us money (even with 1 follicle there isn't a guarantee that there is also 1 egg to collect). We decided to cancel the cycle, gave the trigger shot to trigger ovulation and tried it naturally, sadly without success.
I was super devasted and felt like a failure. I was prepared that IVF might not work, but wasn't prepared to not even get to egg collection.
On follow up with the specialist, he couldn't give us an answer - every cycle is different, so I might respond better with the next cycle. He thinks short cycle is still better for me rather than switching to long cycle. (he explained why and it did make sense at the time)
We are now due to start a 2nd cycle with a mix of bemfola and menopur to see if this works better for me. Currently waiting for period and baseline scan. To start!
Whilst I can't give you a positive story, maybe it helps to know you are not on your own!!! Keep up hope
Oh and I also started taking ubiquinol as there is some evidence that it helps with egg quality
So that first cancelled cycle was in Europe and it only cost me around 1,000 euros with the medications and all. We live in the USA and I couldn't stay there for another cycle, so I decided to try a second ivf here in the States.
The second one ended up with only 2 follicles and this normally also leads to cancellation but because of my low AMH 0.42...doctor said I probably wouldn't get anything more no matter how many cycles I do. I went to egg collection, out of two follicles they got only one mature egg, egg fertilized and made a 5 day blast but could not be genetically tested, so we transferred it without testing. Got a BFN 10 days later and just like that $30,000 went out the window.
In hindsight, I should have just converted to IUI with only 2 follicles but I guess, I was not thinking straight. After that the doctor said that my low AMH, my age (40), and my previous "poor response" to drugs indicate that ivf will just not work for me. I'm going to try naturally for few months and after that I'm thinking of going back to EU for Egg Donor and try that way. I did get pregnant naturally with my daughter right before I turned 38 and back then my AMH was 0.5. Apparently after 40 though your chances of that are 0 to none. So slowly coming to terms that I will need an egg donor to come up with a sibling for my 15 month old.
I'm so sorry. I've no experience of much yet and wish I could say something to help, but I just wanted to say this community is here for you and I hope someone on here can give you some support that helps. x
Hi Tamilore. It happened to me. It was very sad. My doctor told that all cycles are different, and the next cycle everything went great. I’m sure this will be your case. Right now I’m on my 6th stimulation and tomorrow is my first scan. Crossing fingers!!
