Recurrent miscarriage testing

Hi everyone,

Had lots and lots of blood taken today as the clinic have advised we do the recurrent miscarriage testing before proceeding forward. They said that often these tests come back inconclusive and on some occasions they are repeated.

Got mixed feelings about the whole thing - a part of me wants it to be just down to bad luck that we have had 2 early losses but another part of me thinks that if they find something it will give us some explanations and hopefully something to work with/treat.

Regardless, I’m happy that we are getting these tests done as I hate the thought of potentially “wasting” another round of IVF if there is a reason why we are having what looks to be implantation failure. Any experiences would be gratefully received xxx

I had the tests with our fertility clinic and they came back negative so obviously I assumed we were just “unlucky” however after my third miscarriage I had a lot of the tests repeated at the miscarriage clinic on the nhs and got a positive result for lupus anticoagulant. The miscarriage clinic told us that tests should be repeated about 12 weeks apart for a conclusive result. The clinic didn’t offer to repeat my tests after the negative result I’d received with them. When the miscarriage clinic tested me again after 12 weeks I got another positive result. They ended up testing me 3 times altogether; one positive result, one borderline and another positive. I was then officially diagnosed as having lupus anticoagulant. Make sure that whatever your result, you ask to be retested after 12 weeks xx

Thanks Tugsgirl for this helpful advice. They seem to be reasonably on the ball and did say that often these tests need repeated. They also said that the tests can take 6 weeks + to come back.

I know that I had the lupus anticoagulant test done today - they told me that if this comes back positive it can be effectively treated - so that’s something.

Hope you are ok xx
