I got my first ever BFP yesterday after a FET. When I spoke to the nurse at my clinic, she said I would continue progynova until 12 week scan and progesterone until viability scan at 7 weeks. I know theres still a few weeks to go but that seems really early to stop it? Surely it would make sense to keep going until 12 weeks when placenta takes over? It’s worrying me a bit so was wondering whether anyone else had stopped it at 7 weeks?
Thanks xxx

Congratulations 😊 usually is between 10 to 12 weeks. Just speak to them and tell them how you feel. I had ivf in the States and they wanted me to stop progesterone at 10 weeks but today at 11 weeks and 5 days I’ve stopped due to intense migraines probably because the placenta has taken over and producing enough hormone. Good luck!! X
Thank you for your reply. I know it’s a long way to go until then but I’m just not easy with stopping it so soon. Even more knowing so many other clinics stop at 10-12 weeks. I plan to call them tomorrow and express my concerns we’ll ahead of the scan!
My clinic told me to stop progesterone and estrogen at the end of the 12th week (so like 12w 6d). I haven’t hear stopping estrogen and progesterone at different time. It’s frustrating that something like this is so different at different clinics. Mine won’t do bloods tests or anything to confirm it’s okay to come off the meds.
I don’t think mine do blood tests either which is another worrying thing! Surely if I insist I want to stay on them, they will let me? That’s what I’m hoping anyway! Thanks for your reply btw! Xx
I was told to stop estrogen as soon there is heart activity. so I stoped at 6 weeks sharp. progesterone I have to stop at 10 weeks, this is my clinic in istanbul advising, Lucky enough I purchased this there as well otherwise It would have cost me a fortune.

Is there actually a test to be done about the progesterone levels. Honest I cant wait to off the gel. so unsexy and disturbing
Are you sure it's not the other way round? I'm only on progesterone and my clinic advised to take it til the end of the 12th week. I thought it was up to when your placenta had fully taken over, so 7 weeks does sound too early x
My Clinic keep you on both until ten weeks after transfer but told me the placenta actually takes over after eight weeks so they give you the extra time just as a precaution.
Thank you.. I need to actually get to the 7 weeks yet and need to stop worrying! I have enough to take me to 8 weeks and will see what they say tomorrow.. It seems that every clinic has a different protocol but I would rather have more as a precaution! Xx
My old NHS clinic in the UK stopped it at BFP!! My current clinic is 12 weeks (both Estrogen and progesterone) but I wean off so from 9 weeks it halves. I also used donor eggs so will not be producing progesterone myself at all until the placenta does it, as no egg generated therefore no corpus luteum (the shell left of the egg; it’s this that produces progesterone in a natural pregnancy, before the placenta) x
Yeh I would be too with an FET especially. They must know what they are doing though, they’d not pull you off it too early. But hope you get the answer you want tomorrow for some reassurance xx
I think all clinics are different. I think for a fresh cycle it can vary dramatically, for a frozen cycle it seems more common to continue longer. My clinic differs depending on what cycle you’re on. For fresh they stop after viability scan (though a nurse told me that they could stop after BFP but choose to give that little bit of additional support). For frozen cycles both oestrogen and progesterone are kept on until 12 weeks. I’m not sure why there is a difference.
Donor cycle they wanted me to stop at 9 weeks but started bleeding around 5 weeks so my regular dr asked me to take until 12 weeks. He also added POI shots to the pessaries I was taking.
Thank you.. It sounds like you’ve had a real rough time of it over the past couple of months.. I phoned my clinic and their answer was that there had been studies that had proved there is no real need for extra support after the 7 week scan but if I was really unsure when we get to that point, they would reconsider.. 🤞🏻
