Evening all Quick question, with a BFP when do you stop meds? My clinic say 12 weeks but the consultant I used to be under now works at a different clinic & he says there they stop at 7 weeks? Wondering what’s the best? Xx
when do your clinic stop meds with BFP? - Fertility Network UK
when do your clinic stop meds with BFP?
we started weaning off at 10 weeks off completely by 12 weeks xxx
My clinic advised me to stop my progesterone at 8 weeks gestation. I asked them about it because when I was pregnant in 2019 I took them for 12 weeks. They said the evidence now is that if you don't have a history of miscarriage or spotting then 8 weeks should be sufficient. Having said that they were happy for me to continue longer as I had spare, so I continued to 10 in the end.
I think by 10-12 weeks for most people, however i had to stay on them for the duration of my second pregnancy because my first was born 5 weeks preterm. Interestingly my second was a planned section at 38.5 weeks fullterm with no signs of coming early so it seems to have helped me!
great, thanks all. I have a history of miscarriage & spotting in preg so I’m staying on it all!!
it was 12 weeks for me after a frozen ET.
Hi, I stopped at 12 weeks. Cold turkey so no weaning off. Xx
I stopped and started spotting so went back on progesterone. I’d advise making sure whenever you stop that you have spares to start back on it until you can get advice and get more.
My clinic advises to stop at 8 weeks, which I did and was fine.
I my clinic said 12 weeks but I was petrified so I went to 13 weeks with some and 14 weeks with us. Eg prontogest every other day. I was terrified of stopping the meds.
I stopped cold turkey at 12 weeks but I was told that the placenta should’ve taken over by 8-10 weeks anyway xx
Depends if it's a fresh or frozen transfer, also what kind of down regulation you might have been on, or if you did a natural cycle etc.....
With my first transfer my clinic advised me to stop progesterone on test day! Felt v. Early but everything was fine.and my 2nd transfer I stoped at about 5 weeks and everything was fine 👍
I started at 12w off completely by 14w...I'm scared too, it was like a "security blanket" for me...from now on I hope everything will be ok
Think it mainly depends on whether it's fresh or frozen. I stopped at 8 weeks with my fresh and 12 weeks for frozen. Both are conservative though, I think your body/placenta would take over beforehand naturally. But it does also depend on your history. I have a friend who has a history of miscarriage and is staying in progesterone until 36 weeks.
My clinic starts lowering the dose at 14 weeks and I was completely off at 16 weeks.
Hi, my clinic said stop at 12 weeks - cold turkey. But they said you really only need them to 10 weeks and they give you an extra 2 week ‘buffer’. This made me feel better about stopping them - in fact I couldn’t wait to stop them. All was fine and I’m 35 weeks now x
12 weeks for us but by 8-9 weeks it is probs okay as placenta takes over but best to be over cautious is my clinic (and my!) approach
Firstly congratulations!!!
I gradually started to reduce at 12 weeks and completely stopped at 14-15weeks. My clinic tested my progesterone levels every week during this phase along with a hormone panel to ensure everything progressed well. This was also because I insisted in knowing how things were going given my long history of TTC, and multiple failed IVF rounds over 5years.
Sounds like you have a great clinic! Ps, thanks for the congrats. I’m in the dreaded wait to 7+1 scan now. X
No one tells you the amount of anxiety that follows the BFP. All the best on the viability scan. It won’t stop there , and continues with every scan until you start to feel them move inside around 25weeks. Even then there is something or the other that comes up. So hang in there! But It does get better once you see your baby in the scans. Every time it’s like an excitement to see them and then a fear of “what if”… but that I think is post partum symptoms of going through IVF.. we are always worried. Hoping it will get better over time for us all.
My clinic say 12 weeks as by that point the placenta will have taken over feeding baby and the progesterone is no longer needed. (Progesterone is what feeds the baby until the placenta takes over going through IVF or FET we do not produce this naturally) The placenta starts forming straight away and usually takes over before this but to play safe my clinic go with 12 weeks. Personally I waited till my 12 week scan which I had at nearly 13 weeks once I saw the placenta was doing its job I just stopped cold turkey. I would say if you can go to 12 weeks then if something does go wrong you won't have that question of what if I'd stayed on them longer hanging over you. Good luck x
It was 12 weeks for me. History of miscarriage. Still on clexane because of blood clotting issue.
