Hi all,

I had a BFP over 10days ago, does anyone know if I can fly? We are thinking of getting away for a week, possibly a few hours on the plane. The clinic have said its fine but recommend asking the airline when we book about flying with needles etc as I am on the progesterone shots.

Just wanted to know what your opinions were on this? Has anyone traveled so early on into their pregnancy?

All feels so surreal at the moment can’t believe we got out BFP! Trying to relax and take each day as it comes and a holiday will do my and hubby good but I just want to risk it.

Good luck to you all on your journeys ❤️💛

Congratulations on your positive

So I flew to Gran Canaria when I was around 11 weeks pregnant and just packed my needles etc in my case that was getting checked in and put a few hospital letters with it. Never mentioned anything to the airline.

Just be careful depending on where you are travelling to as some country’s you can’t drink their water

So I wouldn’t have any ice in my drinks or eat their salad 😊

Hope you have a relaxing break away x

Hi Emmad781, thanks for your reply and wishes.

I think I would do the same and pay extra for checked in language and pack meds in there. I have asked for a letter from the hospital. Just need to decide with hubby if we definitely want to go or relax at home for a week.

Thanks so much 💛😘

Hi Manesp, congratulations!! I wouldn’t travel long haul...my Consultant and acupuncturist made it v clear they don’t advise travelling long haul in the first trimester. Make sure you wear flight socks, drink lots of water to avoid clots and walk around the cabin...unfortunately I had a mmc the day I flew to Barbados on my honeymoon (Virgin told me when their staff are pregnant they ground them due to flight radiation and miscarriage/clotting risk). My Consultant also said a flight from here to Paris is the equivalent of 2 chest x/rays...don’t want to scare you but I wish someone had told me, my Gp was useless and said it’s safe to travel. Also make sure you don’t have any undiagnosed clotting disorders so you can take either 75mg aspirin 3 days before flight until 3 days post flight and or Clexane for adequate protection. Don’t want to scare you but after Losing my baby exactly on that day I have to be honest. After 5 failed rounds of ivf (my first was natural) I had to fly to the US for ivf which worked first time but I was Clexane 40, wore flight socks etc etc xxx

Hi Natalia44, thank you and thanks for your reply.

So sorry to hear of your MMC. We have definitely ruled out long haul. The chest x/ray example you mentioned does sound scary! Not sure about the Aspirin? I haven’t been told to take this, will ask on Thursday when I have my scan. Need to decide with hubby what we will do, maybe go away, maybe relax at home. 💛😘

in reply toManesp

Check with your clinic and do whatever you feel comfortable with 😘 Wishing you the best of luck with your pregnant. I hope I didn’t scare you but I wish someone could’ve told me this before we went away xxx

All I would say is if morning sickness and exhaustion hasn’t yet kicked in... you may not feel as up for a holiday when it does! The second trimester might be a safer bet to ensure you enjoy it X

Hi Elizabeth86, I think morning sickness is here. Feeling nausea for the last two days. 😖 But haven’t been sick thankfully-yet.

We do have annual leave in July and we were planning to go away possibly then too. But for now I think hubby and I will decide what to do next week, go away short haul (not looking forward to morning sickness esp as it’s seems to be lasting all day) or stay at home and relax. Thanks for your advice 💛😘

I’m planning on flying at the end of next month- I may be pregnant if things have worked. I’ll need to take a letter from the clinic to cover injections but no-one asks. It’s a personal choice re risk. We put so much off due to IVF dates etc that we needed the holiday and I can say honestly that i wouldn’t blame the travel if something went wrong but that is a personal choice. The first 12 weeks is always risky even if you stayed at home. Xx

Hi Zoe_waning your definitely right. Normally hubby and I plan holidays months in advance but as we were having treatment we though we would play it by ear and play it safe. I have asked for a letter from my hospital when we next go in for a scan on Thursday. And I agree as the first 12 weeks are so crucial something could go wrong anytime/anywhere.

Good luck- truly hope you get your BFP! Enjoy your holiday too 😘💛❤️

I'm about a week ahead of you and I'm flying to Italy next week. My clinic said it was fine. I'm also on progesterone injections and Inhixa (blood thinner). Haven't told airline as all the advice I've read says just have meds in original boxes and your prescription with you. People must fly with medication all the time, just going to say when we check in. Flight socks and aspirin is a good idea if you're not already taking a blood thinner x

Manesp in reply toSarah_S

Hi Sarah_S, Congrats to you! I haven’t been asked to take blood thinner but will ask when I next go in on Thursday for my scan. A few ladies have mentioned it on here. Yes people must fly with meds all the time especially when they go for Fertility treatment aboard. Need to work out with hubby if we will go or stay at home either way looking forward to a week off work.

Morning sickness has started for me, has it for you? If so, how are you coping? Good luck with your pregnancy 😘💛

Thank you! No morning sickness, but none of my family (mum and 3 sisters) have ever had morning sickness and I think it's hereditary, so I'm hoping I won't get any. Just mild cramps occasionally, tired, and unusually hungry. Hoping those are all good signs! Crossing all my fingers for your scan xx

Thank you Sarah_S, my morning sickness is all day. There’s some time in the day when I am ok, think I want to eat, and it could be minutes later I am off food again. 🤭

Thanks good luck too 😘❤️

Hey hun

Firstly congratulations on your BFP!

We flew to Gran Canadian the day after our BFP. We were also worried like you but so many people travel internally for IVF.

I'm on Lubion and Clexane so just put the injections in my hand luggage, I had them separate when going through. They asked if it was medication and I confirmed it was. No more questions. I did have a letter from the clinic, which they had no trouble giving me.

Have a lovely holiday. You deserve it! Xx

Hi NMP1026, thank you.

Wow a day after your BFP? You must have had your reservations. Yes I totally agree many women must travel for IVF treatment abroad. Guess we just want to do what’s right. I have asked for a letter from the hospital when I next go in on Thursday, we are still deciding if we will go abroad but will check in the meds with the baggage. Either way happy to have a week off work especially as the morning sickness has started?

Are you experiencing morning sickness yet?

Congrats on your pregnancy! And thanks for your advice. 😘💛❤️

Just to say, maybe be cautious about putting your meds in your checked baggage... if your bags don’t arrive with you at your destination then you will end up stressed and worried because you won’t have your meds. Diabetics fly with needles all the time, I’m sure you will be ok to take them through if you have a medical note.

Manesp in reply toLizzielizzielizzie

Hi Lizzielizzielizzie, oh gosh. Haha I hadn’t thought about the bags not arriving. Good point maybe best to pack some in my hand language too. Thanks 😘💛

in reply toManesp

Good tip lizzielizzielizzie! I flew last weekend to Germany with my progesterone injections in my hand luggage. Heathrow security just asked me to put the vials in my liquids bag and no problems about the needles. They did not even ask to see the letter. I did not say anything to the airline at check in or cabin crew. X

Have a lovely holiday- where are you going?

Manesp in reply to

Thanks Zoe_waning. Seems like it’s ok and no questions asked at security at the airport which takes away the stress.

Thanks- we haven’t decide exactly where yet- maybe Portugal or Italy

😘❤️

Yep! I am currently in gran Canaria- flew out at 5w6d and fly back 6w6d. I'm currently 6w3d haha. Go enjoy yourself. Just ring and check with airline - they should be fine but may want a gp letter to say what they are. People fly with insulin and epipens all the time! Congratulations!
