I'm having a scan at 6 weeks as my clinic know how anxious I am. I originally had a scan booked in for 7w.
Has anyone else had a scan at 6 weeks? They've said I may or may not see a heartbeat as it's so early. My clinic think this will make me less anxious if I see the gestational sac etc but I just think I'll be more stressed if I dont see a heartbeat until my next scan a week later.
I'm worrying what if my embie doesn't make it? , I've been soo excited but cautious since my bfp. My hcg has risen only 65% which my clinic dont seem to think is an issue but its stressing me out. They said a rise of 60% or more is fine. so tempted to get another hcg tomorrow to check it's continuing to rise
Has anyone else had a scan at 6 weeks and was all OK? Good and bad stories wanted. Just wanting to prepare myself in case all isn't well x

Hi lovely, I had an early scan at 5w+4 and saw everything- sac, fetal pole and heartbeat. They were quite surprised we saw so much, you may find everything is still too small to see. Best of luck x
We had a scan at 6+2 and there was a heartbeat, although Dr said beforehand it might still be too early. It's quite shocking how anxious you are after the BFP, you kind of focus on that as a goal but when you get there this whole other set of worries starts at what you thought would be such a happy time, especially if it's been a struggle to get to that point. Hope everything's fine on your scan and things are developed enough for you to see everything xxx
I was worried about that so changed my appointment to 7 weeks and saw our little ones heartbeat. The anxiety does start to get a little less every week you go on. Big hugs xxx
I had one at 4 weeks as they didn’t know how far along I was after my clomid and they saw nothing! Then I had one around 5 weeks and just saw the sac then went back a week later and saw a flickering heartbeat! Try not to worry altho I know how stressed and anxious you must be! They went off of where my hcg blood levels should be and organised me my 5 and 6 weeks scans so they would deffo see something at that point!
Thanks for the replies. Sounds like you all saw heartbeats around 6 weeks. I'm so terrified of there being nothing there. We have been so happy since bfp, like the nightmare is finally over. However I still keep taking tests every day. I think my anxiety will subside heaps when I know everything is as it should be x
That’s so understandable, but I’m sure things will be ok. Big hugs of reassurance...x
Hi Jessy. I really hope all is well with your scan. IVF really does strip this whole experience of the joy we should be experiencing after a positive test.
I had some spotting at 4+6, I went to my clinic for bloods at exactly 5 weeks, I stood up to get out of the car and felt a huge gush of blood outside the clinic. I had bloods done which showed my hcg levels were over 4000, cant remember exact figure. I had a scan and a sac was seen and the nurse thought she could see a fetal pole but I couldn’t see anything! Bloods 3 days later showed my hcg level was over 8000 again can’t remember exactly. Super high..also not a good thing! It was a double transfer and they guessed I had lost one. I had spotting again and another scan at 6+4 where everything looked perfect the heartbeat was seen. Another at 8w..all looked perfect. I just knew it wasn’t perfect.
This waiting is so so hard and I totally understand and also feel your anxieties but it really is a case of just waiting it out..try to do other things to pass the time..take it an hour at a time...ten minutes at a time..Bloods and scans might reassure for a short time but the anxieties still creep back in. I hope this is your time x
Thanks for your reply. My hcg 15dp5dt was 1065. 2 days later only 1758. My clinic said a rise of 65% is OK but I'm not convinced. They said it should only be in the hundreds and my starting figure was good at 1065 but I still find the slow rise really worrying x
1065 is a great start...sounds much more typical than my levels! Time will tell I guess but fingers crossed for a good outcome and a lovely strong heartbeat x
Hi, I had a scan at exactly 6 weeks due to pain on one side which turned out to be just ovary pain post collection. We saw the heartbeat and now I am 30 weeks.
It's so very hard to be happy and optimistic and it doesn't get any easier with time however staying strong and focused and positive is all we can do on this difficult journey 💕and 🤞 for tomorrow xx
I had a scab at 6 weeks and I saw the heart beat - really try not to panic ( so easy to say!)
If I thought IVF was an absolute roller coaster of hell little did I realise that pregnancy would be the same- I’m fine after the scan for about two minutes then panicking about what they might find or not find on the next one!!
One thing I will say is make sure you take your phone with you so you can record the monitor - it’s really amazing to see!
Thank you so much. I'm exactly the same. I'll definitely do that. I'm only worried because my hcg didn't double. I'm going to request another test today to see if it's risen over the weekend. I know they say you shouldn't symptom spot but I feel like mine are disappearing despite strong hpt lines x
I have my scan on Thursday at 6w +3. Fingers crossed for us both.
I’ve done a lot of work with my therapist about focusing on “everything at this moment in time is ok”. I even did hypnotherapy to reinforce it. It really helped me through to ttws and is helping now too. Maybe give it a go. Close your eyes, take some slow breaths and repeat it. I am still worrying a lot but it’s manageable.
I really wish you the best of luck. Ivf does ruin the joy of all of this.
Doesn't it! Let me know how you get on. I'll be 6w+1 according to my clinic. I can't help but worry. I just keep telling myself that there's nothing wrong with me and in normal pregnancy there is now 6w scan so no reason to think it's bad xx
This weds. Was originally booked for next weds at 7w but my clinic brought it forward to manage my anxiety. I think I'll be more stressed though if there's no heartbeat x
Hi, yes we had one at 6 weeks. Saw strong heartbeat and got to hear it too - sonographer wasn't sure if it would work but said would try (equipment in private IVF clinic is fab). Was amazing and very reassuring. Everyone is different though. Very best wishes x
I had a private scan at 5w6d because I was worried I had miscarried and I just saw the yolk sac went to the clinic at 7w4d and saw a nice flickering heartbeat.... some people see a heartbeat earlier than others it all depends on when implantation took place.... if you only see the sac it is just as good as that heartbeat as you know your embie is doing what its supposed to be.... please don't fret about the heartbeat until that next one x
Thank you. Just really scared. My clinic said they'd expect to see a heartbeat by now and that it can go either way. The nurse said she'll call me later x
My friend recently had a scan they thought she was 12 weeks she was actually 7.5 weeks and they told her that she'd lost the baby.... they offered her a rescan for the following week and there was a heartbeat. They'd been confused because of where she thought she was and where she actually was but no heartbeat at 7.5wks..... so please don't fret just yet x
Hi I had a scan at 6w due to pain and bleeding all was fine saw baby and heartbeat now currently 8w and bleeding stopped the reason I had bleeding was because I had a bruise near baby but fingers crossed all will be fine pain came from a cyst on my ovarie what came away I then had a further scan at 7w and all was fine hope this helps and hope everything goes ok with you and your little one xxxx
Hi fingerscrossed38. Today's was 3588. I feel so much better about things. Last weds it was 1065 16dpt, Friday 1758. It seems to be rising a lot better. Weds scan and I now feel happier going into it knowing my hcg is still rising x
Yay I'm glad things are progressing and that you're feeling calmer about things. You can do this xx
Hi, I had an early scan at exaxtly 6w for my last pregnancy because I was having spotting and because of my prrvious MC and ectopic. I saw everything in double - sac, fetal pole and heartbeat. I'm 27w pregnant with twins. They also told me that sometimes it's too early to see the heartbeat. In the IVF world it's normal to be anxious.
Best of luck!
xx
Scan at 6w4d we saw the heartbeat. Honestly I'd try to focus on managing your anxiety more than on scan and beta results. I know that's really hard but your results are normal!
I know it's just so hard. I think it's because this is the first time I have ever been pregnant and I'm scared of my bubble being burst. Today's beta 3588 from Fridays 1758 so feeling a lot better about things x
Oooh how exciting Jessy, I’m the same I have a booked scan at 7 weeks this week as I just can’t wait to see what’s going on inside. Good luck to you xx
Good luck! My 6w scan is tomorrow with my clinic. Also got one Fri with my local NHS hospital. Trying to get them to prescribe my meds for free up to12/13 weeks. Funding privately has wiped me out. Also got a 7 week scan next weds. Like you I can't wait to see whats going on. Slightly apprehensive though. Let me know how you get on! Xx
Got one with the NHS Fri and one with my clinic at 7w next weds. I'm so so worried. They've said they'd expect to see a heartbeat today and that it can go either way. X 😢 had another beta to check if it's an ongoing pregnancy. I'll find out later if it's risen x
Just saw this! Try to stay positive, everything is still so small at this point! I got told when I had my early scans it is hard with measurements etc because of how small things really are. I have everything crossed for your beta and next scan🤞🏼! Sending you lots of love xxx
I don’t think they should say they expect to see a heartbeat at 6 weeks when it is still so early.
I was scanned at 6+4 and beforehand the nurse kept saying it may be a little early for a heartbeat so don’t worry if we don’t see one. There was one but she said not always common in week 6.
Think your clinic should be mindful of how anxious/ stressed you are frankly.
Try not to worry if you can - all still sounds positive - sac, pole and increasing bloods are all great signs 🤞🏻
Sending hugs and crossing fingers for your next scan x
I had a scan last week at 6 weeks(last Friday) and no heart beat, I had a scan yesterday(6weeks 4 days) and there was a heartbeat..... Don't give up hope yet, it still is early. I have to admit all the women on this post saying I saw the heartbeat at 6 weeks made me worry really badly too, it changes day by day, everyone's baby is different, this is why you clinic would have just done the 7 week scan because before that I think it really varies xxxxxxxxx
Thanks for your words of hope. I can't be sure but I think my embie implanted late. Had af pains only day 5. Feeling so stressed out. Even otd I only had the feintest of hpt lines. Wasn't til the next day I got a firm positive. Having a hard time understanding why everything is there and all the right size at 6 weeks but no heartbeat. Had another beta today so hopefully that'll she's some light x
You could have implanted late, guaranteed all IVF babies won't implant at the same time, even a day will make a difference with a heartbeat! Size wise it might be because it's really hard to measure them a few mm makes such a difference at that time, I've googled and Googled this and read that the heart beat starts between 5.5weeks and 6.5 weeks. Hopefully you get those results quick, early pregnancy is really a nerve wracking time, go easy on yourself! ❤️ xxxxxxx
Oh Jessy I’m so sorry you’re going through this! I agree with what all the other ladies have said, it’s still very early and everything is so small. Try to remain calm and positive (easier said than done, I know) but you need to keep that heart rate down and steady. I have everything crossed for you! Sending lots of love and hugs xx
