Miscarriage clinic follow up

We had our follow up today, all bloods came back ok (clotting disorders, antiphospholipid syndrome, lupus etc).

Consultant has arranged a hysteroscopy and biopsy - I know it’s a camera but what does the biopsy check for? This will be in 6-8 weeks.

And they also took more bloods today for genetic testing for both of us which I’m glad about! My cousin has Turner Syndrome and took 4 rounds of IVF to get pregnant, I don’t think it runs in families 🤞🏼

Also recommended considering the nk cell test which we would have to do privately, and he has prescribed me progesterone for any cycles that we try naturally.

I really was so grateful - it feels like he has jumped on everything to try to help us!

Hi orla I'm really sorry for your recent loss.

It's great that your clinic are being proactive trying to rule things out. It's also amazing what a difference it can make when a clinic shows they care and want to support you and offer some active testing to investigate your situation. Especially during such a difficult time.

How long did your clinic suggest taking progesterone for?

I've had a few issues with my clinic refusing to give me more progesterone despite me practically begging them for it! Following my miscarriage I had 3weeks ago, they have done nothing. We paid go go private but its like everything I ask is too much work for them. Needless to say for our next round we'll be looking elsewhere! 🙏

Thanks for sharing. Good luck and wish you all the best in your journey ❤️ .

Xx

Hi orla, I'm sorry for your recent loss.

I'm just pleased to hear your clinic are now doing everything they can to try and figure things out for you. Even if it's to 'rule things out'. It's heartbreaking enough, but when there is no explanation.

My clinic did nothing for me. My 5th attempt and last time using donor eggs. Following my mc, I had to have lovely people on this site suggest possible things to test for: such as Thyroid Tests, NK cells etc. When I took these suggestions back to my clinic and offered to pay for them etc they simply laughed at me, and looked at my other half suggesting I was a 'hypocondriac' or as she put it 'Dr Google'. Turned out I did have hypothyroidism. Whether there is any other reason I'll never know as they refused to test for anything. I kind of feel like Gabi80. All my clinic wanted was the money.

It's such a tough time. Rest up, be good to yourself, do some research. Never stop asking questions and keep your clinic on the ball. It sounds like they have your best interests at heart. Wishing you all the best. Huge hugs xx

Hi Orla, glad to hear that you might be on the way to getting some answers. My dr recommended a hysteroscopy and biopsy after my first failed round. The biopsy was to take a look at the endometrium and check for problems (I had thin lining). In the end when they did the hysteroscopy they decided not to take the biopsy because they said everything looked fine. I was a bit annoyed as I thought they might as well do it whilst they were in there and I had a general anaesthetic to have it done but I guess they know best and if they don't need to poke around, all the better. I didn't feel a thing by the way. Hope you get a date soon x

@music1 @gabi80 this testing is on the nhs luckily! Because I have had 2 early miscarriages and a number of chemicals. They are happy for me to continue the testing whilst doing private ivf and it should all be concluded by the time we do a transfer. I’ve been given a number to call the moment I conceive again for scans every 2 weeks. I’m sorry for all of us, especially when we can’t get what we need from our clinics or doctors xx

My consultant told me that the biopsy can act like “the scratch” as well, and help possible implantation that month. I did get pregnant naturally for the first time ever the month after that procedure so maybe it helped, who knows. I miscarried but that was to do with a chromosome issue we think.

Ahhh ok, so where in your cycle would you want to have it done then to also act as a scratch? I may as well time it!

So sorry for the losses you’ve suffered. I had one last year 💔

I had a lap and hysteroscopy with biopsy last month.

I believe the hysteroscopy can give a more detail look inside your uterus and can treat any abnormalities such as polyps. It can also take a biopsy to check for uterus infections etc. It is much more through than a ultrasound.

It can be done with or without anaesthetic; depending on your circumstances and requirements ; it is your choice I insisted on anaesthetic and my consultant was supportive of my decision. you’re not having anaesthetic or sedation then it’s advisable to take painkillers an hour prior to it. You might bleed during it so bring a pad and you may have some bleeding afterwards with cramping; normal painkillers should ease this.

I had my nk cells tested 2 years ago and they were slightly raised so in a pregnancy I’ll take prednisone ( low dose steroid)

It’s good you’re getting progesterone pessary when trying ; I’ve been offered that during early weeks too.

Good luck with the investigations hope you get an answer and solution to help the next pregnancy let us know how you get on xoxo
