I emailed my clinic to ask for clarification for the 20th of September when I am due to attend my baseline scan and start my stim protocol. Up till now I have injected 0.5ml/50iu Buserelin every morning. According to the timetable, I am due to reduce to 0.2ml/20iu dosage plus start the dexamethasone as well as the merional and ovaleap in the evenings....the clinic has now said.....no, continue to take the 50iu Buserelin on the morning of the scan and we will tell you when to start the stim protocol.....This is all fine well and good BUT we have to prebook the train tickets as well as the hotel stay for EC in advance so secure a room for a couple of nights so that we are not travelling back to Cambridgeshire from London on the same day as the EC. Delaying the start of the stim protocol delays EC and hence throws out our booking
I know, seems inconsequential in the grand scheme of things but I need stability and routine not change of the timetable willy nilly!!

Oh, I do understand your concern and frustration! Rescheduling everything isn't as easy as it sounds, not even with the bundle of e-bookings. Plus, from your story it seems that the clinic decided to delay the stim without even being sure it's needed. They didn't do any test now right? So I assume, they could have asked you to take Buserelin till the baseline scan right in the beginning. Huhh! that's too much of nonchalant and irresponsible attitude from the clinics. Mine gave me another date (2 weeks later) only 3 days prior to my actual appointment. I'm pretty much going through a similar situation of reshuffling my itinerary.
Very frustrating indeed and slightly relieved that I am not the only one who is going through admin gremlins. It is hard enough dealing with the drugs nevermind the clinic not really giving much thought to patients travelling to and from the clinics. Why oh why couldn't they just have said...." continue with 0.5ml of buserelin on the day of the scan and once the scan is done, we will decide on when you should start the stim protocol" I hope that you manage to get your trips rescheduled with minimum fuss!
I know, its Buserelin - the drug is infamous for being unpleasant. Sadly, its the most chosen one for down-reg. I didn't experience Burserelin personally though. There was a discussion in here last night about it. Someone just had the second dose and having excruciating pain in her groin. Continuing with the dosage would sound like - yeah go on hammering your head till we ask you to stop. I find the clinic very unreasonable and unrealistic in dealing with the patients. The should take into account that anyone seeking fertility assistance is not at the best of their emotional stability to feel any good about their gremlins. No point increasing the troubles for an already distressed soul. Hope you too get the itinerary rescheduled smoothly as well. Wish you luck for the scan!
I just wanted to warn you that even once you start stimming, it isn't usually a set number of days til egg collection as different people respond differently to the drugs and can either have egg collection delayed or bought forward. I was told 10 days was the average but my collections ranged from 10 to 13 days. A pain I know when you are trying to book things, but you might be able to organise something more flexible if you know in advance? Goid luck xx
I was going to say as well that as annoying as it is, things often change. My egg collection ended up being a different day to what I was told initially despite starting stims at the expected time, and transfer was as well. At least having all embryos frozen will take away the uncertainty there.
Even if rooms aren't supposedly flexible, often if you call and explain the reason, they will change the date if they can.
Thanks, I think that I was just venting. Everything is so up in the air and I'm so much of a control freak....SO doesn't bode well for being a parent....heyho!!
It's is frustrating when you don't know time scales etc. Unfortunately Ivf seems to come with instability, the unknown and not being able to plan which put me really out my comfort zone! My 3 cycles were all different time wise for stimming and responding to drugs which is obviously not great for booking hotels. Hang on in there!xx
From my experience I'd say hoping for everything to go as per timetable is wishful thinking. It's all dependent on the way your body reacts and also the timings of your clinic. It's unavoidable I think.
If it helps, my hubbie always seems to find good deals on hotels.com at the last minute when he has to go away for work.
