1 or 2?! Decisions decisions...

so after our BFN last week, we have had a call to say we can start a FET on my current cycle, this is great news but we now have to decide whether to have 1 or 2 blasts transferred... We have 4 frozen - varying quality from 5ac+ to 3bc. I am 34 and our infertility is unexplained. I had 11 eggs collected originally, 9 fertilised and 5 made it to blastocyst stage, we had a 5ab transferred which didn't implant (unknown reason but I was unwell and on antibiotics at the time) this FET will be part of our NHS funded cycle, but any future treatment will be self funded. I would appreciate any advice in single or double embryo transfer as our clinic have very much left it up to us to decide... 😥

It is a hard decision and we were in exactly the same position as you. We decided to give ourselves the best chance and have two and we are so thankful we did! One implanted and we are now 7weeks pregnant! Although it would have been lovely to have twins we are more than happy with one!

Good luck with whatever you decide xx

We were strictly going for one only until on the day of transfer they told us that the embryo didn't quite reach blastocyst and we were on day 5. They said it was up to us but I asked for their professional opinion and they said to put back two, so we did. Still in 2ww

Your consultant is the best person to advise on this. We never got to blastocyst stage and only ever had 2 embies and due to my age (over 40) we opted for both. They gave us the option of 1 but advised 2. I had FET on our 3rd cycle as my body wasn't playing it's part so they froze the embies and we had ET a couple of months later. FET is much easier on your body as no stimulation.

It's great you've got so many in the freezer. Good luck.

We went for two and now have 16 week old twin girls. Twins are hard work but so is IVF and I'm glad I don't have to do it again now. However if I was to do it again I would have two transferred again, no question. Good luck. Xxxx

Hi embiemomma. I would normally say that you are best guided by your consultant/embryologist, but as he/she has passed the decision over to yourselves, then I think I would go for a 2 embryo transfer - depending upon how many embryos they thaw at once. If they thaw 2, then perhaps go for the 1 or 2 that survive, then you would be able to store the other 2 for future use. Decisions - decisions! Good luck with whatever you do decide. Diane
