ivf advice fet or fresh?

hi all,

looking for some advice really. Had 2 nhs funded cycles with donor sperm. 1st fresh one implanted but had early miscarriage 7dp5dt. Had 3 embryos frozen from first cycle.2nd funded cycle had frozen transfer but sadly embryo did not implant.

At a crossroads not knowing what to do for the best. Do we pay less 2k+ to do fet with current clinic with remaining frozen embryo or do we change clinic and do whole new fresh cycle maybe with different donor Sperm and pay more and do access multi cycle for 8k+

I am 30 with pcos and low ovarian reserve but I am asking because starting to wonder why it hasn’t worked yet, is it my eggs or is it the donor Sperm or mix? We had all high graded embryos

thanks for reading and any advice

I personally prefer frozen, as it gives your body a rest straight from egg collection/medication. Also if the embroy can survive being frozen and thawing it is ready shown it is a strong. However neither is no guarantee and ultimately it really is just down to luck! Xx

Hello, it's a tough question to answer. I don't think there is anything wrong with your eggs or sperm if they have created embryos. But maybe there is an implantation issue? Through an immune test I found out that I needed Prednisolone which helps the body not to reject the embryo. I also asked for blood thinning injections as I saw plenty of women on them so I was given them too.

In terms of whether you should go for a fresh or frozen cycle I don't think there is much evidence to suggest one is more superior than the other. However, I got success by doing a natural FET cycle which I had not tried before in combination with the steroid tablets, blood thinning injections, progesterone injections etc.

Not sure if my answer helps, sorry, but this is what I know from my experience. Good luck!

hi- can I just check are you saying you’ve only had one egg collection and that your funding was classed as the fresh and then frozen subsequent transfer and that’s counts as 2? If so that’s so unfair 😢For our funding a cycle is classed as an egg collection and any frozen embryos as well (all one cycle) I hate the differences and would be writing to my local MP if I were you!

That aside I would defo try the frozen embryo you have left. It’s cheaper, easier in your body, the embryo is made and good quality and for me personally it was frozen transfer that finally worked so I’m a little bias ! You have had 2 transfers and one did implant (although didn’t progress 😢 which is likely the embryo just wasn’t quite right)so that’s a 50% success rate really on the implantation front so lots of reason for hope and with that clinic. Have your clinic recommended doing anything different this time (extra progesterone support etc) ? Xx

hi Twiglet2 thank you for your reply. So yeah where we live (Gloucestershire) the funding is 2 transfers if that makes sense so we had full stims and egg collection and a fresh transfer days after and then 1 frozen embryo transfer because we had 2 frozen embryos. Thank you for your advice and experience- I think I’ve just taken the outcomes quite badly and it’s made me think is it my eggs is it the Sperm donors Sperm that is the problem and made me think of just doing a whole new cycle but like you say it’s cheaper and 50/50 could work. Full stims cycle and egg collection is a lot of physical and mental strain. I guess cos my first frozen transfer failed and my liking was great it made me question this cycles embryos. They upped my progesterone to 4 x a day following our initial early miscarriage when we were on 3 x a day which did prevent bleeding. But just don’t get why it didn’t implant this time

we've had 9 embryos transferred in total over the years and only 2 implanted and 1 successful pregnancy and those were all embryos good enough to be frozen so it really can come down to a bit of luck tbh there’s so much they’ve learned about fertility but still so many unknowns is the way I had it explained to me! We did the exact same thing as what worked previously with an even better graded embryo but it didn’t work so there is definitely no way to be sure why it did implant the first time but not the second for you 😢 I really hope no matter what you decide to do next it works for you really soon 💜 xx
