Hi guys ❤ need some help with this. Our consultant recommends transferring two embies next month as does our embryologist. I know this sounds quite unusual but they highly recommend for me. Last time we transferred two it ended in very early chemical. We would be happy to have twins and would love it, however I'm worried if my body wasn't working well that particular time we'd be wasting two or if one would effect the other from implanting because of less quality (which I've read) we would be transferring a 4AB and a 3BA? Not sure if this makes a difference. I've also seen how pregnancy can be more difficult and risky. Has anyone had twins and found everything to be OK? We want to listen to our consultant but are really unsure what to do for the best ❤ would two single transfers give us a better chance do you think? X
Transfer 1 or 2 Embies : Hi guys... - Fertility Network UK
Transfer 1 or 2 Embies
I’ve always wanted doubles. When I had my first single I had a mmc at 12 weeks, this was the only embryo we had at day 5 and my next single didn’t implant, I requested a double but was talked out of it by the doctor.
With my first double I had a full term baby girl.
My next double, 1 implanted but sadly m/c at 6 weeks. Then my last double a chemical.
I don’t believe having 2 effects the chance of implantation.
Your body will accept or reject regardless of how many go back in.
Good luck on your journey 🤞x
Hey lovely, as you know we had twins. I was really healthy throughout apart from needing some iron tablets as I was a little anaemic. I had major fluid retention towards the end but overall I didnt experience any major problems in my pregnancy and I was in my early 40s. Perhaps I was just lucky but I know a fee other ladies that have had twins and been ok health wise too. I personally feel that one helped the other stick in my case as my hCG didnt rise too well at the start but went up nicely after a few more days and one was always smaller than the other. If the embryologist is recommending it then they must think it's ok with the grades that you have to do so. My only thing to add and it's a bit on the sensible side and a crappy subject but if you think you may require childcare in future then for twins it is extortionate so something to consider too....I have a bit of a headache with paying for ours and they are obviously hard work but I'm sure you know that one!😬 That said, I dont regret it for a bit!xx
Hello! I’m 30 weeks pregnant with twins and I’ve found it okay so far, no major health concerns. A little low on iron but lots of pregnant ladies are. I’m quite petite build wise, so as I’m getting bigger I am feeling the strain but it’s manageable. I’m also closely monitored ☺️
I don’t know the exact grade of my embryos but I know they weren’t the same, and I asked the doctor at the time about transferring two different quality ones and she said it wouldn’t impact implantation and in my case, it didn’t!
We actually transferred two in the hope of one sticking as it was our fourth round so we feel so blessed that both have stuck and are doing really well 💙💜 xxx
I have learned in this journey that it is best to do what you feel comfortable with. What is your gut telling you?
I personally had 2 transferred at my own request because I was 43 but I pushed for a day 3 transfer against my doctor’s advice. Only one of the embryos implanted and I am currently 36 weeks pregnant.
The decision is ultimately yours to make and it is okay to not go with the advice if you are unsure. Just remember that if you transfer 2 embryos, it does not double your odds, it only increases it marginally. My doctor at the time gave me a 10% chance and then said it increased to 15% with a double transfer.
I agree with Franfran82 the main thing that affects implantation is the embryo’s Chromosomes and the uterine environment and this is not impacted on by how many go back in.
My younger sister underwent IVF treatment in an unregulated country and her doctor routinely implanted 4 embryos! I cautioned her against it at the time. She ended up with twins which is what she really wanted. However she met someone that used the same clinic and had triplets. So you never know how it will go…
If you have two implanted then you have to be ready for twins and be comfortable with the idea. There are also women that implant 2 and do not have a BFP. This is IVF for you, nothing is certain.
I wish you all the best 🌹
Overall if you transfer separately you have a higher chance of each working. But together you should have a higher chance of one working. I have read that if you mix quality embryos that reduces the chance of either working because the lower one can affect the higher quality one but this is something you’d need to discuss with your doctor. They will know for the best.
